I teach cadets at police academies.bad enough.....as for actors , NO THANKS
She's a lefty?
She's dead to me now.

Very cool.
Nice to see people taking it so seriously.
If I may say so, it is also nice to see bigtime Hollywood actors dressed down in a pair of ripped jeans and a t-shirt, or jeans and a sweatshirt.
Pointy elbows

I could probably use the training, but Mrs. Smith is dangerous enough... Thanks.
See the

I thought so too.
Why would they not tell Brad to bring that right arm down?

Ding Ding
6:49 the polite "I don't care who you are, point it at me again and I'll crack your melon open shove."
Ya know....being a movie star, the fame and money/lifestyle is all really cool. But the free training these lucky bastards get to go through is what really gets me jealous.
I mean seriously...imagine having to prepare for a role and getting to pick the brains of a NYPD homicide detective or learning how to ride a motorcycle from the best of the best. Firearms training from Navy SEALS, etc.
Where do I sign up?

Before that She swung it past and pointed it at his forearm. Besides the chicken wing they were crowding cover and extending their firearms through ports when firing. Pitt looked away twice and wasn't listening during the ak instruction.
I don't see the point of this. There was no need for live fire with these two dummies, and very expensive dummies from a liability standpoint. could have been done with blue guns, air soft or sim guns. Who knows what really happened but it looks like a " day at the range" not days of training. Hard to believe blue guns or some non firing simulator were not used.
I watch the behind the scenes stuff all the time and I'm shocked at all the improper stuff the actors are taught. You think with the massive budgets they have to make these movies they could get some decent firearms instruction. I have been through many classes taught by SEAL's and Rangers and none taught some of the shit seen in this video. Yeah nice chicken wing and tea cup grip dumb asses!!!
"No nukes is good nukes."
Still a douchenozzle.
I remember seeing a WWII era marksmanship training video that was actually posted here on arfcom. It was a movie for Marines I believe. They taught a "chicken wing" hold. Personally I don't really think it matters one way or another.
funny, i dont remember dumb and dumber having guns in it
i hate both of them with a passion.

think about that when you get in a firefight and have real bullets flying your way. you can stick your arm up to get hit, ill keep mine down thanks.
Anyone else notice the muzzles on those MP5s ended at the front sight?

Airsoft would have given the same skill (for them) and been a LOT safer.

I was going to ask if that was the reason, "smaller target". I've never served so I don't know.

Jolie said a few years ago that she bought "the gun she used in Tomb Raider" (H&K USP Match) and had no problem defending her kids with it. I suspect she gets a little range time on her own.

Marksmanship stance =/= combat stance.

Exactly, blading off to the side with a M16A2 to shoot a 50m target while standing and barely holding the hand guard is not the same as returnning fire with an M4 and engaging in CQB.
In real life, would a female of such slight build have the strength and stamina to be a serious combatant?

That's said but makes no sense, unless your elbows are drawn in so,tight that they are nearly touching and not extending past your torso you present the same surface area. The elbows in stance is an adoption of the stance used since the 70s at least with submachineguns. It theoretically might prevent striking an elbow when moving through doors etc but I think that's another one that was made up later. It let's one control recoil on smaller lighter recoiling firearms and allows one to shoot while moving more easily than the old national match style stance which is geared toward heavier recoiling 30 caliber rifles with longer stocks.
There are some cool WWII training clips around that show thompsons being used fired from the hip in sort of a wide cowboy stance. Not sure if that was done in reality for room clearing

Interesting.
I have never thought or read much about elbows out or elbows in much and, just by chance, the way I have always held the rifle is to have the elbows more against my body than up away from my body. Just the way I naturally held a rifle all these years.
I just grabbed a rifle and held it with the elbows out and it felt unnatural to me. It kinda knocked me off balance if you get what I mean.
Anyways, whatever is comfortable would work I guess?
Interesting though, I just never thought about the elbow position before. It just never crossed my mind that it mattered one way or the other.

Depends on her physical conditiong, same as any man's
A lot of people here would be jealous.

Not really. you still need strength and conditioning and stamina is not a substitute for pure strength. Angelina is a stick with almost no muscle tone at all. I can't understand why they use her for all these "tough girl" roles when she really can't pull them off. I laugh at the shit they make her do because there is no way someone with her build could realistically do it. Linda Hamilton pulled of the "tough women" roll in Terminator 2 really well. She was ripped and strong as heck and pulled off thet type of roll really well. I can't remember another female actor that was as good as Linda was in T2. Maybe Sigourny Weaver in Aliens........?
As much flak as he gets, it has to be said that Tom really gets into his roles, from a physical standpoint.

I think that the biggest plus for elbows in is reducing the chance of breaking cover early while moving towards or past openings, and when breaking cover to fire, or accidentally uncovering the elbow while hunkering down.

I watched a clip of a WWII US jungle warfare school in which the trainees walked a live fire course with Japanese dummies popping out from behind cover at 10-20 yards or so, they were trained to hip-fire their Garands into them rather than take the time to shoulder fire.
