Coin Collectors, I Have a Question
I have a chance to buy a complete set (minus one) of Morgan dollars, all dates and mints. All are MS60 or higher.
Is the collection worth 15k? I believe the only one missing is the 1895 proof.
If they are all really uncirculated, that's a hell of a deal!

That deal is too good to be true.

That's what I was thinking. A co-workers mother has them. My co-worker said he has already tried to find financing to buy them from her, but couldn't, so he told me about it. I asked why so cheap, and he said because she wants to sell it all at one time.
I figure they are worth taking a look at. Does anyone know exactly how many coins this should be?
Are they graded? If so snap them up!
If not... then there is no way they are all MS60's

I also asked that, and was told that they have all been graded.

Find out who graded the coins. All grading companies are NOT equal.
Which grading company? PGCS or NGC? They seem to demand the premium. The others do not seem to be worth a premium to the market

Out of curiosity, how many coins are there?
Sad thread for me my grandparents had the complete set including the 1895 proof but when my mother died the relatives stole it and other complete sets. Peace dollars, Mercury dimes, Barber dime, quarter, and half dollar sets...
I ain't even mad tho..
Coins and grades
Here is a website that will give you some values on the coins based on date, mint marks and grade. Know that Morgans are
highly counterfeited. If the coins are graded and encapsulated you probably have a good deal. Buyer Beware.
ETA:
1895 proof in poor quality is still worth $16,000
1893s in AU 50 state is worth $20,000 so I doubt she is letting the whole lot go for $15K
NGC is said to grade higher than PCGS. That being said, the price will hinge on how complete the set is and how the coins grade.
It takes just 28 coins to assemble all the dates. If you include all the different mint marks, then of course it will be more coins. Some of the Carson City coins in higher grades can be really expensive.
Some places sell "complete sets" that include just one of each date (28), and 4 more coins, one with each mint mark.

I was looking at their website, just to ballpark it. (The values are about twice what you could actually get for the coins.) The proofs alone in PR60, minus 1878 7TF Rev '79, 1883O 1894, 1895, and whatever the 1921 Zerbe and Chapman are, would be worth 15 grand. If he has a chance at a complete collection of Morgans across all mints, and it's only missing the 1895 proof, and if they're in good shape and not counterfeit, I don't know why anyone would waste any time here....I'd already have them stored.

Personally those coins would have to be "graded" and "slabbed" professionally for me to have interest.
Personal opinion of a coins condition just does not cut it.
I've just about stopped buying coins that have not been professionally graded.

There was a seller on ebay 2-3 years ago that had a complete set of NGC and PCGS graded Morgans, across all mints, most uncirculated, some AU, and he was asking $106,000, I believe. A lot of interested folks. I don't remember if he got what he was asking for, but the pics would make you drool, just looking at them.
