Army EOD?
Anyone here army EOD? i am 11B right now, thinking about re-classing to EOD, looking for any good info on how to go about this, or any good info about the job in general.
I'm army EOD, what info do you want? To start the process go to the special operations recruiting page and look a the EOD page. Check the requirements and make sure you meet them, then you will send an email with a letter of intent to the recruiting office, and they will contact you from there.
Make sure you can get a top secret clearance. This is what stoped me from going EOD. Kind of funny, now as a 91S I have clearance.
Thanks guys, i am going to try to go see my retention officer soon and see what he can help me with.
questions Once you pick your mos and start training in your field how long untill you can switch your mos ? When you switch your MOS do you loose your rank and have to start over ? If you dont have a security clearence how many years of good conduct in the military do you need to obtain one ?
Once you pick your mos and start training in your field how long untill you can switch your mos ? 18 months, or so Ive been told.
When you switch your MOS do you loose your rank and have to start over? No but its sometimes harder for E5 and up to change there MOS.
If you dont have a security clearence how many years of good conduct in the military do you need to obtain one ? Not long at all. I didnt have any clearance intill I did Stryker Mant. Course (R4 ASI) right after AIT. I was giving a secret clearence. But it all depends if you have a clear back ground.
Why don't you like your fingers? Why do you want to blow them up?

Is that your attempt at humor?

If you fuck up in EOD you usually lose a lot more than fingers.

Actually I have been blown up more than a few times in the past few years, i figure this way, the explosions will be on my terms, not theirs.

That's what I told my wife when I reclassed.
"At least I won't have to find them, i'll know where they are instead of having them randomly blow up on me..."
Yeah, the implied danger isn't any better. In fact, it's much, much worse. The only difference is that you are now well trained to try and avoid it.

I always tell my wife that in all probability i wont even know what happened, it'll be a flash and there'll be a pair of smoking boots on the ground. She doesn't get consoled by that at all.

I used to think that until I saw some of my friends get screwed up pretty badly, including one that died in the medivac chopper on the way to the hospital.

I'm sorry to hear that man, i know how that feels.
Oddly enough I did have a team leader lose his fingers in front of me, and most of his other forearm and his eardrums.
If you go Army EOD and make it through Eglin, you should volunteer to go 28th EOD as soon as you can!
To do otherwise... Well, I guess you gotta ask yourself WHY you are going EOD?
To do COOL SHIT? 28th!
To be apart of the ONLY Army EOD 'Jump' Airborne Company? 28th!
To use a KICK-ASS assignment for EVEN BETTER assignments? 28th!
Section Work & Group B.S.? (almost) Anywhere else than the 28th!
Best of Luck!
I was 11B then 33Y then after 7 years in the Army - I went EOD!
If the 28th woulda been around when I was in, I woulda tried like hell to go to the 28th!

The 28th is ok, but it leans away from a lot of core EOD skills and focuses more on entry team embedded engineer-type obstacle removal and breaching , kind of like watered down 18C's. I
They are more dynamic than ANY EOD unit I have seen and "times have changed" from your assessment!
I don't want to discuss their capabilities specifically, but, they are ALOT more than a typical EOD Tech and light years ahead of 18C's & Combat EngiNerds.
"Airborne Status" should tell ya something! Its alot more than just falling out of a door of a plane! No logistical tail. They are LIGHT and therefore have to THINK more so than: "Oh thats on the truck"
That means they get LOADS more training and conduct training from within alot more!
Dynamic. They are Selective and THAT is a good thing.

They have a different mission set, and from working with them at NCOES and Afghanistan they don't do many conventional EOD style incidents. As such their core competencies suffer, such as dealing with UXO and RSP's or ordnance or IEDs. I don't believe they are on jump status, at least the last guy I talked to from them last year said they weren't. There are several other units forming up that support the same type of missions as the 28th now.
Not knocking the unit itself for this, but the last time I went in somewhere right after the 28th, my entire team was almost killed as a direct result of their non-focus on basic EOD TTP's. Granted, they can do a lot of pushups and are probably a lot better at BIP and breaching than most conventional tech, but I think i'll stay where i'm at.
Is it true that a lot of 74D people work closely with EOD? Heard that the other day, wife is 74D on her way to Ft. Leonard Wood in 2 weeks for AIT.

There are a few tech escort units that have 74D's and EOD combined, aside from those units the two will never be assigned together.
