Decent weather station with rain gauge, and preferrably wind and barometer

Been thinking of picking up a weather station of some sort for a while now. Definitly want something with rainfall, and preferably wind speed, direction, barometer, etc.

Doesn't need to be cordless, provided I can run a long cable. Actually prefer one with a cable, that way it can be powered from the ground. The instruments would go on the roof, and the readout panel would be in my basement/man cave. Not looking to spend too much....aiming for the ~$100 range.

Any recommendations? Way out of my price range?

Got mine at Wal Mart for like $90, auto rain gauge, wind speed and direction. Works really well. Bass Pro runs some on sale from time to time.

wired or cordless? if cordless, what distance from the main unit to the sensors?

In my case, I have a steel roof, and an older 2 story farm house. so it would have to travel through a few solid floors, and a metal roof.

A basic kestrel could do what you want.

...i don't quite know that I can agree with you there. Looking for a fixed weather station that can be monitored remotely. So far, all the kestrels I'm seeing only have remote access via USB. USB being a max of 16.4 feet. I'd be looking at closer to 50-75 feet, and need something that could be mounted on a mast or tripod.

Maybe they have a model I'm not seeing... most look to be handheld. not to mentioned the rain gauge....

I wouldn't put it on the roof of your house unless you are trying to collect temperature data for Al Gore.

I just put mine on top of a fence post in my backyard. It's a wireless Walmart special temperature indoors and out, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction but no rain gauge. I think I spent somewhere between 40 and 60 dollars for it, but now I want fancier one.

I figured that would be the most accurate for rain and wind data. My house is surrounded by trees and woods...but the roof is somewhat unobstructed.

Here's a PDF for things to consider when siting the station:

i have this one. so far i like it. Temp reads high in the heat of the day but a better radiation shield should fix it. i have it streaming to my twitter feed and underground weather so i can see real time anywhere

mine has been running since may on the same batteries and has been 100% reliable so far. sensors are also cheap if they get damaged.

check your im box and i will send you the link to my station.

will do! Price is right, features are right, and being able to upload data is the icing on the cake. Nearest WU station is about 20 miles from me. Would be nice to have closer data, and I don't mind sharing it.
