I love mine when there isn't too much breeze. Or I try to put it upwind of me if there is a slight breeze. They work.

Well worth it. I use to hunt in south La by a bunch of water and it would keep all of them away. The small one even works well outside when Im grilling.

Best thing I have ever used to keep the bugs away. It works the best when still hunting though. If you are stalking, it's effectiveness drops as the trail of bug deterrent follows you rather than enveloping you.

Also, DO NOT use in a vehicle without having windows open. It is a chemical and it will harm you if you have prolonged inhalation exposure. Also, anything that is rubberized such as radio knobs or eye-cups for binoculars will become tacky after prolonged exposure to the chemical. This is easily avoided by having good ventilation.

After a day of early season hunting, I shut mine off and put it in my backpack. It still gives off the chemical as it cools off. It ruined a nice pair of Nikon binocs.

They work really well as longs as there is no wind.

In fairness, most skeeters don't hang around in a stiff wind either.

I have a question about these. I bought one about a year ago and I do love it. However, the box says the insert is good for 12hrs. I rarely sit in a hunting blind or out on the boat at night for 12hr straight. I'd think it's have a little juice left. How do you store yours say you ran a new insert (blue patch) for maybe 4hr so it keeps its potency?

I have always turned it off and just left it in. I just pulled mine out of the closet last week and it had a semi burnt blue pad in it that had been sitting for at least 7 months and it still worked fine.

FYI keep it away from your fish pond. Clumsy hands = mass fish kill.

And there is no odor to spook game? I'm thinking spring bear hunting. Can deer smell it?

Deer, bear, pigs, turkey, bobcats and foxes have yet to smell it when I have used it in the woods.

Ditto for me. I've used it during early bow season for deer, fall turkey and now spring turkey with no I'll effects. Works great. Even though it's not for ticks, I haven't even got a tick on me. Didn't spray for ticks either, could be a coincidence there. Just wish I'd know those blue pads were more durable than I thought.

I can definitely smell it when it lights up, pretty strong actually. However, I took a doe at 28yds with a bow and a turkey at 24yds. I'm sure the animals smell it but everyone here in humid TN raved about them and it doesn't seem to scare the deer away.

Thanks for the feedback on these things. The wife got me one for Fathers Day last June and it has not been out of the package. I will fire it up once the skeeters get busy. ( Yeah, still pre-season for us , but not for long )

Yes, it does work, but the butane cartridges produces heat, they are smelly (if you happen to be downwind), are expensive and it adds up after a while, esp. if you forget to turn it off a couple times. :) I have now switched over to "Off", the battery operated clip on...works just as well..doesn't smell, no heat and the batteries last a lot longer then the butane.

I have tried the Off clip on. Deer smell it just like they smell Off bug spray.

A Thermocell helped keep my sanity while salmon fishing in Alaska. Those little fuckers are relentless up there, the Thermocell and 3M Ultrathon were the only things that would keep them away.

Best money I have ever spent on Hunting stuff. Never had it spook a deer, turkey or anything else and it keeps the bugs away, not just off of you.
