I'm looking at buying my first fly rod. I've had really good luck with my St. Croix spinning rods so I would like to buy from them for my first fly rod. I've read a little about the imperial series and this seems like the rod for me. Now I need to select my weight and length. I'm mostly going to be trout fishing on the Big Horn or on several of the other Montana rivers. I would guess that most all of it will be with dry flys.
I'm looking at a 8' 6" 4 wt for a rod. Does this sound about right? Has anyone used an imperial rod? Also any sugestions on a reel and line?
St Croix are good rods
Get a soft (slow) action and practice before you go
I did some Pro Staff for them a few Times
Had a friend that got me the first gig
Daughter takes up all my time now
I prefer fast action for Warm Water and soft for trout
Find out how far you are going to cast and you might get an 8' rod
I have a 9' 9" Loomis but it gets heavy after a while
But I can roll cast 45 ft with a bass popper so......
It was great working with a guy working on his Master Casting Instructor for FFF
He had to practice on somebody
Friend is a VP with FFF now
Pray for him he has been sick
