I'm willing to organize an Arf Steelhead trip this late Fall...
...to Steelhead Alley this late Fall. I'm pretty good at logistics and organization. I can handle the lodging up there, know the good rendezvous points for good eats and relaxation
The big draw back will be the timing of folks getting off work which might mean only weekends.
I'm retired so if some folks want to go during the middle of the week that's fine also .
We might consider doing this on several weekends to accommodate those with previous engagements.
FlyfishNePa, IIRC, KJCA3, and others feel free to give your opinions on this idea. It would be nice to pull this off this year.
Shoot me IMs if your so inclined. If there is enough interest I'll start a spread sheet.
Steve
ETA ; Those who live in Ohio and are members in good standing, that I've corosponded with are invited to stage from my home.
Steve
I'm in.
IM sent.
This is a great idea and I hope we can work something good out. Thanks for taking the lead and coming up with a outstanding idea.
Where is steelhead alley located?
West of Cleveland all the way to Rochester, NY, Just about any creek or river that has a decent flow (usually) dependent on rain or snow melt will hold fish. As of now they all need rain. The fishing can be mind blogging at times.
I gotta get dates for some previous engagements in October, but I'd love to come.
Consider this a tag for more info.
And thanks for the invite and organizing things.
If October doesn't work for most folks, there will be more fish in the Eire systems in early November. However the Big Browns in NY are going strong near the end of October for the most part.
I've had an invite to visit an old Army buddy I haven't seen since the 70s down in Georgia for the last two weeks of Oct for months now. I could go down for 1 week and still make it back for the fishing trips, depending on the interest here. Just let me know who wants to fish up north.
Steve
Also worth noting is that the salmon run on the west coast of MI. will be under way soon and every Steelhead and Big Brown in the lake will follow them up stream to gobble up their eggs behind the redds. Sculpin patters and egg patters are killer at this time.

ETA : I could take one person to Michigan with me and stage out of my little sister's hacienda. She's an honest to God millionaire with plenty of extra room. She has already given me her blessing two months ago for staging, It would just be a question of asking if I can bring one person with me. That person should be well manored I should add.
Nah..... I like fishing for real steelhead you know the ones that go to the ocean
Don't worry I am just givin you lake run guys a little shit.....

lol..West Coast has been giving the Great lakes a good ribbing for years now. I wish your stocks would return to the 70s levels.
If that would happen I'd be on the Sauk and Skagit in a heartbeat, not to mention a few others I remember from the 70s.
Double tap.
On second thought Adder13... Have Spey Rod - Will Travel.

It is fun
I just purchased my first spey rod earlier this year. I am still ironing out the kinks with my casting; hopefully I can catch some chrome with it here soon. The rod is not a complete virgin though; I did manage to get some nice bull trout with it as well as two chinooks. We are supposed to have a good return this year as the numbers right now are six times what they were last year.
I wouldn't know about the runs in the 70s' though. This is because I was very young (as in I was born in the early 70s') during that era.

Is that wild or clipped, kind of hard to tell from here. What did she take ? Was that on the Snake?

That fish was a hatchery brat and if memory serves me correctly she took an egg pattern. Out of the 7 fish I managed to land that day on the Salmon River 4 were clipped. So what kind of spey setup do you have?
would you guys be willing to go a bit further to the salmon river? the fishing is getting good right now

My workload is starting to pick up, so I think I'm going to have to keep it down to a day trip or so. I'll have to see what's going on then.
I really, really want to hook into something big.
