Bigger better fly boxes might cause my ruin.
I have for several years been carrying my daily CCW a G30(not willing to give up old faithful) in my old cheap o vest's inside pocket using a chepo mikes type holster. The time has come to lighten up the weight. I have considered going to a sling type pack. The orvis types, even the gun/tactical ones from versipack, but they appear to have as much if not more storage (trying to minimize here.)and might just add all the weight to one shoulder.
Recently I have been thinking hip/fanny type fishing packs anyone have experience with carrying a pistol in these ? What do you think of their usefulness and comfort in general ?

IMHO they have too many nitch pockets and ff specific sized pockets. If your piece fits in a fly box pocket great. But I think they are overkill for edc. If you are regularly on the river fishing then they may make sense.

Sorry if I was not clear every day is in a crossbreed holster. This would only be for on the stream use.
If it helps, I used to use a Maxpedition Versi-pack and it held all my equipment, my glock, even a small digital camera. It had plenty of pockets, yada yada yada.
The issue I had is it put all the weight on one side of my body. It did put me out of balance and It slipped around my body when bending and fell more often than I used to.
I have gone back to a vest, I can balance the weight much better. I carry my Glock on my hip when wearing hip waders. When wearing full blown waders
it is in a pocket on my vest that is very convenient on one side. My Patagonia vest has some very accesible pockets. Then I just balance it out by putting more
weight on the other side. I like having my CCW handy. Bears don't always like sharing the water.
Whatever you decide, I would get a pack or something that balances the weight on your body as the first concern.
Unless you are a six legged man with the balance of a tight rope walker.
