Any good survival shows/movies on netflix?
I saw a few with Les Stroud that were pretty good, anyone know of any survival movies on there?

My wife and I watched the series Jericho last year. We liked it.
"Survivors" on BBC is a series (only one season) that was pretty cool, IMO.
I have watched both "MI-5" and "24" as well and although they are not survival shows per se, they are great!
Don't forget "The Walking Dead" too.

+1 for Jericho. Main reason why I like the show it shows an event that hell could happen. Plus what could happen if the nation divided (end of season 1 and season 2) I wish the show was still on. Also its a lil corny but the Colony i just watch a couple weeks ago. Never seen it its a experiement based survival show going into the psycology (sp) of it. They show building things with what they have. I personally like the 1 season over the 2nd but should be noted its decent. The 2nd season IMO is whats more likely scenerio to happen (viral outbreak)
If you like the outdoor survival I like Dual Survival. Most people (myself included) will have the mentallity of Dave Canterbury how the general how to survive but Cody Lundin shows alot of stuff that i didnt know or even think about.
Man Woman Wild, chick is semi hot but is annoying and husband (ex-Green Beret) is cool, should had his own show
Man vs Wild. Bear Grylls only drinks his own piss so dont waste your time. worst survival show ever
Movie wise (not sure on netflix yet to stream) But the Book of Eli should be note
thats my .02
alaska the last frontier is pretty damn good ( homesteading vs the standard bunker prepper shit)

Another +1 for Jericho... that show was amazing, and surprising considering it came on CBS...
I'd have to disagree about The Colony though... At first I was really into it, until I realized that A: It's just like any other reality show (partially scripted) and B: the premise was false, which really turned me off. The premise was supposed to be "random strangers meet each other in a post-apocalyptic world and survive". But look at the
cast list: they just randomly picked volunteers who happened to specialize in a full range of skill sets that ensured their "survival". hell, the even injected a former SAS guy in there.
So they basically stacked the deck, then put them in this mock deserted town that conveniently had all the little bits necessary for them to build an airboat, wind turbine, make biofuel, etc...
I would have been much more enthusiastic about it had it really been random... sure, maybe a couple "experts" with skills that would be useful in that situation, but throw in a hairdresser, a watier, and the typical random morons youre more likely to encounter randomly in a situation like that. :/

This i can agree with. Only reason why I like season two because they seem more "worthless" CAST of people than the first season. This can also agree with "randomness" of the 1st season (hell you had a doc and a nurse in the same show) statiistically i dont think it could happen. But like i said previously 2nd season seemed more likely to happen.
I couldn't stand the idiocy of The Colony

There was a lot of herpdy-derp in that one, and much of it seemed staged, but it was entertaining the first season.
The Road should be on netflix, its worth a watch.

+1. The Colony was awful.
I would recomend Survivors(there were 2 Seasons,albeit short ones) and Jericho(only 2 seasons).

^^^^^^ = my new favorite
The Edge - some good Alaska scenary and a big bad bear
+111 on Survivors
Couldn't get into Jericho, just too slow.
I like Jeremiah pretty good but didn't see listed any more.
Phase 7
It is subtitled but is good. Watched it per a recommendation here.
There's a helpful, long thread on this, probably in the archive now––but my fave off that list was "just outside your door".
And Jericho.
Just did a search. Couldn't find anything titled "Alaska the Last Frontier" or "Just Outside Your Door" for instant streaming. Were these DVD only?

I can't even find anything about Alaska the Last Frontier on Discovery? I see where you can watch some clips on their website but I see people asking where the show went. Is it still on?
Out of the Wild. There are two seasons. The first is in Alaska and the second is in Venezuela.
The Earthling(1981)

there was some full clips on youtube but they got yanked.
you can only find clips.
cliff notes:
homesteaders in Ak. They live off the land for the most part. 2-3 families, who have lived out there for 80 years iirc.
Shows a ton of insight on what you need to do /have etc.
some typical TV faked stuff ( gun play etc) for effects. But not many.
Contagion.
Contagion was pretty good. Tomorrow when War Began was also an ok flick.

One of the first survival shows!
I don't know if it is still on Netflix but I watches the whole Jeremiah series on there and it was a really great show!

That one was good enough I would buy it on DVD or iTunes if I could...
Mine were discs––I don't stream...yet.

Just started watching the Venezuela one interesting show.
Survivors (2008) TV-PG disc or streamng from BBC
When a deadly strain of flu decimates the world's population, a scrappy group of survivors find themselves struggling to exist in a world devoid of electricity, running water and government services.

If I remember correctly, all the experienced people left the show early on because they got tired of the inexperienced people falling out of the humps and just making things harder then they should have been.
I still haven't watched all of the Venezuela episodes yet. It'll be interesting to see if the same thing happens.

I also like Dual Survival.

I agree
ETA: I just watched
"Burma VJ" last night. It made me thankful for the freedoms I have today, and afraid for what could come tomorrow. While watching, it was hard to remind myself this was a documentary, not some made up movie plot. It saddening to know people are forced to live like this.
This is a must watch. - "Burma VJ"

Yes the second season was helped along. The cast could build mechanical items but could not take care of basic security, could not effectively forage or provide enough food. They had to put the sas guy in to save their asses and the embarrassing end they were heading for.
Finally got to watch Jericho on Netflix streaming. Have to say that, while I liked season 1, season 2 was a letdown. The "hero" surrenders more often than France, and has to be rescued like he's Olive Oyl! And they got the sides all wrong in the political confrontation, which kept pulling me out of the immersion. Also didn't like the thinly veiled blatant way they referenced Haliburton and Cheney, or the out of the blue reference to global warming.
Season 2 was where the mythos promulgated by the Hollywood types who wrote it came out and it showed.
I mean, does anybody reading this really believe that a constitutional convention based in Cheyenne Wyoming and attended by Western state representatives would do away with the 2nd amendment?

That's weird....I started Jericho because of this thread and I'm almost done with it. I think 3-4 episodes left. I really liked it from a TV drama stand point. From a real SHTF scenario....well no, it wasn't very realistic. There have been some things that are probably realistic that I hadn't thought much about....such as neighboring towns going to war against each other (maybe not as dramatic as they make it) and the quick power grab and reconstruction of the US. But otherwise, alot of it sure made life look easy.
Speaking to the global warming, Cheney/Haliburton, surrendering etc.....I honestly haven't seen any of that? Not saying it's not there, I guess I've just missed it. As for surrendering, I'd say there is about 99% too many successful plots, schemes, attacks and fights to be realistic.
Either way, it's a great show and I wish it ran longer. I really like it!
I still haven't found "Alasaka: The Last Frontier" anywhere! Sounds like a good show.
This look interesting.
Braving Alaska

I like to watch stuff about AK and see how others take to living up here.
Added it to my netflix.

I got so frustrated with the show. they started with a professional wilderness/fishing guide, and a woman that had hunted to feed her family her whole life, they were the first two to go. from a survival standpoint though it was the smartest call that they could have made. they recognized that the others were going to get someone hurt or killed and didn't want any part of it.
then toward the end they used up the cop to the point of starvation. great plan, take the biggest strongest guy, make him carry more weight than everyone else, then don't feed him any more than everyone else even though he is doing more work and burning more calories....
20 Years After is available now. Not too bad, but slow

Not really a survival movie, but its a post-nuked USA, so maybe it counts.
It has to be one of the most bizarre movies in the genre though. Its got the Highlander guy selling guns out of an ice cream truck and the Rock as a movie star on the run from the gov't
Southland Tales.
Bizarre.

I will raise you one. "A boy and his dog."
From netflix: "A young man roaming a postapocalyptic wasteland ends up in the clutches of a female-dominated underground society –– which wants his sperm."
...the boy and the dog can telepathically communicate with each other which is pretty funny at times.

Uh huh, watched that one a while ago
Discovery Channel Out of the Wild Venezuela
and
Survivors
For those searching "Just outside your door", it is "Right at your door" - "right at", not "just outside", and yes it is a very good survival-related flick. Netflix has the DVD.
