Anyone using Google Maps for GPS Plotting and Coordinates?

I've got my Garmin eTrex coordinates locked in on HOME - I go to google maps, zoom in to the max, right click / click the flag, copy the coordinates - when I enter the coordinates into my Garmin, they are about 90 feet West.

Has anyone tried comparing coordinates in your GPS unit with coordinates in google maps?.... any problems?

I've checked these two links for help ... maybe I'm missing something.
Understanding coordinates in Google Maps http://support.google.com/maps/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2533464

How do I look up latitude and longitude coordinates on Google Maps? http://support.google.com/maps/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1334236&topic=1687353&ctx=topic

eta: I checked my eTrex setup ... it's set on " hddd.mm.ss.s "

Go under units in your setup, you should have the following settings -

Position Format
hddd.ddddd

Map Datum
WGS 84

If different change to what I have listed above and you should be nats ass.

If you're "marking" a location in a canyon or on the side of a steep mountain you can get a bouncing signal that throws off your accuracy by allot. In this case I usually just watch it and try to mark an average from the variance.

I mark my set target locations in the desert then mark and measure on google maps. I know it's right on the money cause I can see the actual bush I mark over

I use a 60CSX but yours should be the same for settings. This will give you direct cords in and out of google earth. You'll need to use a negative sign (-) in front of your West cord also.

I changed the format and Datum as you said.... it's within about 15 feet ...

Thanks

No problem. The 60csx has been around a long time and well known as the most accurate, full featured gps until maybe now. I don't think they have any more accurate location but just easier interface. I paid a shit ton for mine back in the day but they have come way.... down recently. Highly recommended still by anyone that knows anything about gps.

Google earth is such an amazing tool too, I'm on there for hours at a time either plotting my marked locations or finding new adventures.

They discontinued them. Rumor I read was SiRF (the chipset maker for these units) lost some court cases regarding patents or something. http://www.cafc.uscourts.gov/images/stories/opinions-orders/09-1262.pdf

So they designed a replacement. That's the 62 series. If you want a 60 series, you might still find some new ones in stores, or have to go to Ebay.

Thanks Waldo.
I'm low on bucks anyway. The old eTrex will do if I have my " granny glasses " with me. It works just fine, but the screen sucks - bad.
