Where is the best place to buy seeds for sprouting? I want to get lentils, wheat berries, and what not for sprouting and long term storage. Thanks for the help!

I ordered mine in bags a few years back from ID, but if I was to do it again, I might just get it already canned from the LDS folks.

Picking it up locally is cheap, discreet and hard to beat.

Journey:

I've looked locally at healthfood/hippie stores and prices are not competitive. I have also looked at mail ordering and while prices look quite good, shipping and handling quickly erode any real savings and it ends up not such a good deal.

I've looked into this a half dozen times and each time I come to the same conclusion. I cannot beat the prices of the LDS church website. I order directly from them, and shipping is included. As a bonus I don't have to buy mylar or buckets orO2 absorbers since its all prepacked in #10's.

LDS Home Storage webbsite

It's $28 shipping included for 6 cans of wheat, total about 33 lbs net.

If he has a local cannery nearby that he can buy from,

those 6 cans of white or red wheat are $21.00.

I also highly recommend LDS for your wheat purchases. They are by far the cheapest, cleaned wheat I've been able to find.

As for sprouting seeds, I am happy with the quality and variety offered by Handy Pantry. $70 + Shipping for 12lbs of a nice variety pack, so not cheap but 12lbs of sprouting seeds will last you a long time. I've had very good germination rates with their seeds.

If you haven't had roasted wheat sprouts yet, you'll be very happy you decided to start sprouting. I let them grow until the sprout is about an inch long then roast them in the oven until they smell nutty and are brown. They taste like Grape-Nuts (they basically are), only better.

In fact, I'm going to start a batch now.

++1 for ordering from LDS website.

It's already packed and sealed in #10 cans. It's a buck a pound (last time I purchased) from the health food folks. It was Slightly less than a buck a pound from LDS, and already sealed up.

I asked for feed grade wheat from the feed store. I hope it's not treated.
