Rugged one day pack for while out on the streams fishing for the day. Something that can hold up going through the heavy brush. For some gear and munchies.

For a one day pack, just go down to the local surplus store and pick up any military back-pack.

For some reason, I can't think of the name of them, but I still have my large from 1996, when I got out.

I have beat the crap out of it, and it still is hanging in there.

Camelbak HOSS. Take it with me fishing mountain streams, holds as much water and food as I want to take. Plus doubles as my work and truck bag (holds first aid/trauma kit), little extra food and water, jacket for the season, and some other odds and ends. Had it for two years and no problems. Oh... Also take it hiking and mountain biking. Come to think of it this bag does a lot

Something else I like is the D.V.I.S. Can't remember what it stands for but it allows airflow on your back as you move. Wear a pack doing something in 90-95 degree weather without, then with it and you'll know it's not a gimmick. The pack also has some rigidity to it which helps on long day hikes.

a jansport backpack would probably get the job done. if they could stand up to what we put them through in high school as well as what we did with them in the summer a couple of fishing trips should be no problem.

I have a Kelty ?Redtail? that is about right for lengthy day hikes for two people or one guy with a bunch of stuff. Padded straps, appropriate size, lots of compartments, and well made for the price. We've used it occasionally for 4 years now. I think it was around 75 bucks new.

I'm sure I could camp out of it comfortably in decent weather for a few days as long as I could find water to purify.

If you don't want to spend that much, you might try to find an Army surplus assault pack, one of the ACU ones.

I use the .mil version of the Camelbak HAWG. It's a heavier cordura and has some molle/velcro vs. the civvy version. It works great to carry a light jacket, food, water, knick-knaks, and what nots for a day hike.

I got mine from LA Police Gear, but if you do some google searching you can find deals here and there.

...or you could just get a basic Jansport backpack. They still have a lifetime guarantee and come in a variety of colors.
