Long term food.......
I know this has been covered many times, but I hoping to get some direction from the expeienced on which direction to take. I am trying to decide whether to invest in prepackaged 20 year shelflife food, or prepare my own with (wheat, rice grain, etc) for long term storage. Any info on what companies to buy from for materials and supplies or premade food. Any opinions on what I should do would be appreciated. This preparation is for my parents which is my father age 73, mother age 67 , and a 96 year old grandmother. They live in a area that is heavily populated and I would like for them to be self reliant for a period of three months .
Thanks
I'd check with their dietary needs first... many blood pressure/cholesterol medications cause constipaton in us older folk...do they take something like Meatmucil? ... if so, the freeze dried stuff or MREs might not be a good choice...my suggestion would be to set up a can rack type of storage, where you can automatically rotate their normally consumed stock (in the top, out the bottom)...use the Wendy DeWitt method of determining your needed supplies... determine your weekly menu requirements..7 breakfast, 7 lunch and 7 dinner (or whatever meal schedule) and add to the on hand stock until you have 12 weeks worth (the Sam's/Costco membership would probably be worth the cost buying for that many).... that plus a way of filtering or purifying water....

There are 9 parts but you can track them along the sidebar. There's also an hour and a half all at once video from 2005 that's worth watching for the extra bits she does that she doesn't do in the 9 vid set.

She has some great info, I watched that one and two more then realized I just burnt up 1.5 hours of my life watching it. I wrote her name down, and will be burning up some more on a later date.
Thanks
Excellent info, ended up watching a1 1/2hr one.
anybody have any idea on how to get her book that she references multiple times in the video. I got the impression it was a hand out that she wrote and was printed by the individual churches for her presentation.
Thanks for the link and any info on the handout.

There's a link to her blog in the info below the videos. Go back a couple of pages to 2008. All of the info is laid out there in the blog pages, or you can email her (email is in the blog) for a PDF copy.
ETA: Just got copies of "Everything under the Sun" in PDF, the Spanish version in .DOC, and "Everything Made Simple." Waiting for permission to disseminate it, at which point I'll try and figure out how to attach them. Meanwhile, if anybody want's a copy, IM me.
