transfer pump
I need a new garden watering pump to transfer from the swamp to the maters n corn.
Both from Agrisupply, Pacer, and Honda powered
Which one?
5HP, $411 +tax
5.5HP, $576 + tax
I used to work part time for a irrigation well drilling service. We used honda tranfer pumps. They worked very well. We would some times pump over a mile with (if memory is correct) three inch hoses. Those pumps took a lot of abuse. I can't remember ever having one that wouldn't start in the first two pulls of the cord.
probably not very helpful, but all I can contribute...

OK, But which one?
Why such a disparity in price for a half horse?
There is a reason why the construction industry standard is anything that is driven by a small gas engine, it is a Honda. They take a ton of abuse, and still are reliable. You will not regret that Honda powered pump.

I would suspect it is not a difference in price from the 1/2HP, but from the pump capacity, pressure or design.
I use a PTO powered pump from TSC that was 149.00

I haven't a clue from the pictures. Is one a trash pump? I have used one to clean up after flooding and it sucks in all kinds of stuff with no ill effects (although I do run it with a large screen filtered intact. Since you're pulling from a swamp, that's what I'd want.
UPDATE:
I went to the pacer site and both have same lift and flow
but
the 5.5 has a cast iron sleeve. Is that enough to make it so much more expensive?
FWIW, I saw one at the local TSC for 299.00 in the discount aisle. Honda 160 pump.
I am seriously considering buying one to irrigate my garden.
