Bad WX in IN, OH, KY not over yet!
Holy Cow! Didn't want to hijack your thread, sburggsx, but I thought the worst of the wind was over when I got home about 2130z. The sun was shining and the radar showed the front almost out of Indiana entirely. I had the vertical antenna laying down in the back yard because of the WX reports this morning. Put it back up when I got home and made a QSO to Croatia on 20m PSK31. Noticed it getting cloudy again, even though the radar showed clear. The wind really started blowing and the vertical was bent over nearly at a 45 degree angle. When it subsided a little, laid the vertical down again for the night. 51 MPH gusts on the backside of the front! Heads up!
one band is just passed over us. heavy rain, LOTS of lightening and a little wind. one strike did flicker the power but nothing major. was wondering how you were making out, wasnt sure where you were in In.
I thought it was gone... but I've been hearing a slight breeze. Guessing I'm an hour or so behind you.
Sadly, there are no antennas at the new house to blow over.

East side of Indy, almost in the next county to the east.
Passed us in Southwest Ohio about 2 hours ago.
You guys stay safe, KY is having its ass handed to them

Oh no, the wind BD is talkign about seems to be hitting now. Just heard it rush by.
Most of KY fared pretty well. Henryville, IN got the bad of it. Prayers going out to them. Hoping I can go help tomorrow.
Monitoring the state MTEARS system, there have been a number of touchdowns in central TN although nothing more than high straight line winds are light hail has come through here.
West Liberty Ky. has been hard hit all communications knocked out several injuries.
Holton in Ripley county Indiana got slammed. Homeslice is just north of there if I recall (hope you're safe). I went and pitched in with the red cross and ares team up there. We were told to expect 50+ so we set up accordingly. Approximately 2-4 families showed by 10 pm. Glad I was 12 miles SE when it hit, both cells missed us to the north and barely south . We have insulation and debris that fell here in Switzerland county. Checks were found from henryville IN.
Had to give my poor dog some of her Zanax. She freaks out so bad in a storm.
Weather nets were abuzz with activity. You do have to sort the wheat from the chaff in our weather nets though. "Penny sized hail at my location" When Net Control clearly asked for Quarter sized hail reports and bigger.

14 fatalities in Indiana....16 in Kentucky. Kentucky didn't fare for shit.
I realize you posted this Friday evening.

That shit fries my head. I've heard people on Skywarn nets report "it's starting to rain at Hwy 41 and SR 115" or "it's getting really dark in Oldtown". Really relevent stuff. This after net control has defined he informatiion requested criteria.

Yep listen to the same stuff here. It is especially annoying when you sat in the Advanced skywarn class with someone the week before, and they call on the net and say it is getting dark and the wind is howling!
In the last year I have witnessed 2 reportable events, one was wind gusts that were well over 70mph from a thunderstorm, and the same storm snapped off 8 inch green branches of the trees and uprooted a couple behind the condo. These were reported after the fact with pictures to the NWS. This was estimated wind speed, and later I found out the ham 3 miles from me recorded 77mph gusts with his Davis anemometer.
The worst was the Tornado outbreak and people were calling "Break" into the net to report heavy rain, this while we had an EF3 and an EF1 touchdown. Like the idiots did not hear the emergency traffic being handheld by the NCO from a guy witnessing the wall cloud and the funnel dropping. The NCO told everyone to clear the repeater and standby, the report comes in that he could not see the funnel touch down but there were school buses flying through the air, and he was confirming a tornado was on the ground and the power had been out for quite a while. 3 people were killed during that twister.

We're not far from there. No damage here. Thanks for the concern.
Buddy of mine is a county sheriff, he said Holton is a real mess. Feel bad for those folks...
I missed where it was yesterday morning, but my gf was watching the news. Damage didn't look too bad until you realized the school bus was sticking halfway out of a house.
I'm looking at safe room plans trying to figure out what design will repel a school bus flying through the air.

Underground safe rooms. Getting below ground is the safest place....you just need some way to let S&R know you're down there if the school bus lands on top.
