Meteor Scatter using FSK441, and Tropo using JT-65

Looks like the we are entering the Aquarid's meteor showers this weekend. Since my 2 meter halo will be here today and I have the mast up and waiting I am looking for any insight on operation of meteor scatter. I am going to try and get up and running with it, and invite anyone who would like to try to join in this weekend. I will also be looking at making some Tropo contacts using JT-65.

On a side note I scored a 160w 2 meter Tokyo High Power amp for a great price and will have that up and running in the next couple of weeks.

Any experience, tips, suggestions?

Keep the antenna away from your head when the amp is on!

Don't have enough experience to help you with the rest.

Yea, the mast I made is elevating the antenna for that reason!

Plenty of current and good coax for the amp.

Just upgraded the coax and jumpers to RG-8/U for the power, according to times microwave the RG-8x I was using is only rated for 150w at 2m. I am going to try to find a nice linear supply for the amp, but have a backup plan in the mean time.

Damn UPS driver never knocked on the damn door today so I will have until tomorrow for it to come.

I know, pisses me off about the antenna, but I will have it up tomorrow evening. Antenna is just an omni, but that is ok, I will be able to go QRO in the next couple of weeks, until then I will have to use the little amp at 30-50w.

Not to worry, with the low pressure boundaries shifting around here on the east, we are destine for more storms and good Tropospheric Ducting over the next couple of days.

Both the loop and the Ed fong antenna cam in today. I have been testing WSJT software for Meteor scatter. I am running the small brick amp, with 2 watts of drive from the 706 I am putting out around 50 watts. I was able to receive a ping with some datat, but was unable to decode all of it, and nothing else heard after that.

The antenna I am running is a 2m Halo from Freqtester, thanks KCC

Looks like some good ducting here on the east coast, Tropo forecast shows it increasing into the overnight and peaking around 8:00 EST.

I am still trying

ETA: My new antenna mast and antenna

Not a big gun station but I hope it will work

Where did you buy your antenna?

2m FM is ducting pretty well. our local repeater was keying up another repeater on the same freq that is in Wv.

There is some interesting things going on

The lower one appears to be a multi hop E propagation, as the temp inversion continues the Tropo will get better. No contacts tonight, but that is ok.

Hey do you have 2m SSB capabilities?

ETA: I called CQ a bunch of times, and think there was a station trying to answer but could not hear them, and at one point I did hear a couple of people, but they were too weak to pull out of the noise.
Having the antenna inside does not help, but I will make some contacts.

yes, i have 2m SSB but no antenna in the air right now. one of these days im going to setup my GP-9 on the pole in the back yard but have to figure out how to get the coax run inside.
