Deer in the line of fire: Right thing to do?
Today I was out hunting and passed up a nice 7 pointer. The reason being that there was a 4-pointer (not legal in PA) right behind him. Did I do the right thing, or should I have taken the shot anyway and said F- it?
FWIW the deer was at ~45 yards, and I was using a 165 lb X-bow. Yesterday I shot a deer standing in the exact same place through both lungs so I knew exactly where that bolt was going to end up. The bolt penetrated yesterday's deer but didn't have enough juice left to embed itself in the ground...
You did the right thing.

1st post.
Don't invite the man...
As above, you did the right thing. The shot you don't take can never cause you sorrow. There will be another opportunity. Good luck––and good choice!

I would've said "F it " .. but that's just me.
You did the right thing.

Exactly this.
Unless you're literally starving, it never hurts to pass up a shot. There will be more where that came from.
right thing
Sportsman have a duty to be ethical - you did good

You did the right thing.
I passed up 4 shots last year and did not get anything.
This year arrowed a buck opening day. I am the only one I know that arrowed a buck so far. Nobody has seen any deer for some reason.
I would never forgive myself if that arrow had gone through the first deer and wounded the second to have it run off and die later due to its injury.
whether to the wound or to predation BC/of the wound.
You already killed a deer from that stand this year, and you had two more bucks sitting there? Pass on the shot. You have more season to go, and evidently, enough tags and a productive stand. You unquestionably did the right thing.
Hunt enough, and most people will either have shots that they passed up for reasons like this, or stories about why they should have passed them up.
You did good...
Thanks for the encouragement.
There's a 10-pointer that I've spotted in this same location so I'm hoping I see him at some point...
