I am looking at two used rifles at a local shop. This would be alternative deer rifle to my Marlin 336 30-30, and .35 Whelen handi rifle

Ruger M77 mkII stainless/synthetic .308 $450
Remington 7600 pump synthetic .308 $425
I am sure he would come down some on either of them.

I really like the stainless of the Ruger and the Mauser style action for ruggedness and dependability.
But, there is definitely something cool about the pump action rifle. My father-in-law has been hunting with his 760 for over 20 years now. This one also has iron sights on the barrel, but either will be getting a scope.

What are your opinions on these two rifles?
Thanks

If those are the only two choices then I would save my money and stick with the Marlin. If you just have to have one of them then I would pick the 7600. It would likely outshoot the Ruger.

I guess those are not the only two choices, but they were both in the shop today and caught my eye.

I'd say none of the above.

For the same money you can get into a new Savage model 10 or 12, Howa 1500, Weatherby Vanguard, and occasionally Remington 700's.
