First rifle season buck in 20 years.
75 yds through heavy hadrwood and whips.
Buck came out to my right, forcing me to shoot left handed over my right shoulder at my 4 o'clock.
70's vintage 336 in 30-30 topped with a Weaver fixed 4X firing 170 grn Federal JSP
Round entered high in the shoulder, punching through the lungs and creasing the heart, possibly cliping the spine.
The buck went down right were it was standing and never got up.
Older deer (approx. 6-7 Y/O) with his rack "going the other way" 196 lbs hanging at the weigh station.
Congrats! Some people joke about the 30-30 but the deer just keep dropping from the fud gun!Saw a 6 pointer this evening but couldnt shoot without hitting a doe.Need to get some Chili[with beans]meat!

Congrats! I took a marlin lever gun out west last month for coues whitetail (308 mx). I went out sat am. Only saw 2 does.

ETA - Had a nice buck run out in front of my truck on Route 108 on my way to dinner, kind of looks like yours!
I live in Milton. that's where the buck hailed from too until last Saturday

My dad uses a Marlin 30-30 lever action, I use a Winchester 30-30 lever action. Both with red dots. Best rifle for our area by a long shot.
I thought you shot him in the head.
Congrats and good eating!
I love my Marlin 336 30-30. It got the call 2 weeks ago for the open of the season. On my last hunt prior to coming home I had a spike in my sights at 90 yards, but since it was so early in the season I let it pass. I hope I don't regret that decision come January!
All I use for deer hunting is a 30-30 open sights.
My 1972 Winchester 94 has been dropping Maine and Connecticut deer since the day it was purchased.
