who hunts with an acog
I have the opportunity to get a ACOG or a accupoint at about 50% off MSRP and I am thinking of getting the TA11j-g for my coyote gun.
anyone like dislike their acog for use with coyotes and predators?
Pros or cons?
I used a buddy's ACOG on my AR for a few weeks about 2 years ago. It was nice and compact and a great unit, but the 4x was limiting in some situations, even though I don't turn my own scope up past 4x that often. Both units you are considering are great choices; but if it was me I'd go with a variable AccuPoint.
Shot a large doe with my TA31RCO last season. It was a tough shot because she was running full speed 15 yards in front of me. Barely got the shot off. Nicked her heart and she fell into a heap. Didn't take another step.
Awesome for hunting. Great for low light. I use the TA31F-G, I put some duct tape of the fiber optics and peel it back as it gets dark.
i use the TAO1NSN all the time and just recently started using a Ta31F
Ever heard the axiom - beware the man with one rifle? Going to use my defense robarm for yotes and i am going to run a TA31F on it. 95% of my shots will be inside 100 yards. After using 3-9s my entire life, I am anxious to see how this goes.
Had a 4x32 with dr. optic on it and wasn't really satisfied with the accuracy I was getting. I went from half inch groups to almost 2 inch groups at 100 yrds. I hunt mostly at night and like to run usually 6x to be able to pick out small bodies. The little bit of extra magnification helps. Imo having a light reticle at night distracts me but I may have some form of A.D.D. lol
I use a TAO1 for yote hunting. Not the best optic for it, but it works for me.
Ta 31F on a 6.8 for deer since 04, absolutely perfect!!!
2 Moa for deer is more than adequate as you have an 8in kill zone. IMO
I used an ACOG on my rifle to go out with Rizzo on a hunt and I didn't do to well with it. Since then I have giving alot of thought about getting something else for hunting.
Mine is a TA-31F

Your right 2 MOA is ok for deer but I am thinking the OP was asking about an acog for predators. There is a big differance shooting at a deer from a stand and hitting a running fox at night. Vitals are the size of an apple and I want to be precise as possible.

confused here...so you are saying you use MORE than 4x onj a runnign fox - at night? vitals the size of an apple and you are greater than 4x? How do you even acquire it in your view? I don't understand the reference to 2 moa as the ACOG will get you groups that are less than 1 moa if you and rifle are up to it.
I usually keep my scope on 6x it still has plenty of view and more magnification then the 4x acog I had . I stated earlier I could only get 1.5 to 2 inch groups from my acog. I'm not knocking acogs cause I think they are awesome glass and I would mount on a blaster all day long but it is hard for me to change on my hunting rifle when I want the most accuracy I can get. I could have probably worked a load or tweaked the scope some more but my opinion is if it ain't broke don't fix it.
