Great outfit, the prices were very modest the food was amazing (from steaks to roast turkey). Everyone limited out half way through the hunt. We saw more bear than I have seen in my entire life. They had chocolate, cinnamon and copper phase bears in addition to generic black. Your choice whether you wanted to use dogs or spot and stalk. Using dogs is becoming increasingly restricted and I hate sitting over bait and far more enjoy the thrill of a hound chase or viewing the countryside.
Plus we saw tons of moose elk muleys whitetail and coyotes. I have been on guided hunts in Wyoming and Montana before but this was my first in Canada.
I shot both bears at (coincidentally) 138 yards exactly. One was a vehicular spot and stalk, the other a stalk along recently cleared areas where the bears were eating clover. My buddy shot his treed by hounds.
My buddy and I used Black Hills Gold 168 grain. All but one shot went totally through the bears leaving nice quarter sized exit holes. The only one that did not pierce the bear went through both shoulders splintering all the bone and leaving the slug just inside the hide of the exit side looking like a text book mushroom. I was amazed by their performance not so much with their accuracy though, it seems my groups became fist sized at 100 yards, albeit fine for a hunting round.
Great story.
Sounds like y'all had a hell of a hunt.
How much did that last bear weigh?
Estimated at 300+ but it was spring. In the fall that bad boy would go at least 450. Its fur was outstanding.... gonna be a rug for sure.
