We used suppressed 6.8 SBRs on our trip to Wild River Ranch and I was thoroughly impressed with it's performance using 95gr TTSX.

Love the 6.8 SPC. I've take several 180 - 200#ers with it, one of those was pretty bad placement (black pig @ night). Went in the chest way too far back, but plowed its way to the the opposite shoulder and shattered it. He only went 10', which is pretty damn close to DRT. I'm impressed

I have now shot > 450 hogs, and > 35 deer with the 6.8 and if you use the 85 TSX, or the 95 TTSX you will get a very high % of one shot kills.

Here's 2 killed with the 110 TTSX, before the 95 came out. Results are just as good, with the 95, if not better, because it opens at much lower speeds:

While we're at it, let's try to post some deer kills with the 6.8.

Here's the 95 TTSX load & its target performance:

Here's the first deer we killed with the 95 TTSX. I shot it purposely through the ribs to see if this all-copper monolith would open on this relatively soft target.

Entrance:

Exit:

The deer was shot at 100 yards, and ran about 30, then fell over dead. The bullet worked perfectly.

I put my Nephew on this boar one evening.

6.8 with 110 gr. ProHunter put it down DRT.

Then on a different trip:

The 6.8 is plenty!

I don't have as much experience with 6.8 as some of the other posters on this thread, but it doesn't take long to learn to like it.

Excellent performance potential in SBRs, particularly now that lighter-for-caliber projectiles have become available. My 12.5" 6.8 makes legit 2900 FPS with SSA TL 85 TSXs; my 12.5" 5.56 makes nearly identical velocity with M193 (55 grain).

Unless you really like the whole "fashion show" of the latest Mossy Crotch- big thicket-ultimate Sniper camo, then camouflage is not at all required when hog hunting. I walk up to them on a regular basis, in jeans and whatever else I happened to be wearing when the mood struck me.

Actually, its not really necessary with deer hunting either, if you have good woodsman's skills, and pay attention to the wind.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming....

Well said, can't speak for hogs but I have snuck up on deer wearing Woolrich plaid for many moons! The wind is much more important than camo pattern.

All one shot kills between 60 and 120 yards using SSA 110gr Sierra Pro Hunter.

Exactly, this is normally how I do it all year round except when it actually is hunting season during the fall, I do wear my camo...

My shirt and pants are actually khaki; it is the camera flash that makes them seem lighter in color. The main thing is that they are lightweight cotton; for those who haven't heard, it can get plenty hot and humid in SE TX during the summertime.

Unfortunately I don't have much time for handloading, so I only do it for my 7mm-08 bolt gun. The other main reason for this is that I haven't found any factory ammo for the 7-08 which performs very well, whereas the SSA 6.8 ammo is superb in producing sub-MOA precision out of my SBR and the TSXs have excellent terminal ballistics, so I just fork over the cash for the time being although I am saving up the brass. HTR has been handloading 6.8 extensively for several years, so I am sure that he can answer any questions which you may have.

OK, then !

6.8, 95 TTSX , over 29.5 grain Re 10X....DRT, through both shoulder blades...this was back when it rained in Texas

Bill Wilson's pig, shot at WRR, 6.8 SBR, with 95 TTSX, when it first came out. We would not have killed this hog without thermal.

Shot during daylight (strange sensation, that is) from one of the blinds, again, when it used to rain here. 6.8, pop, flop but this was with 85 TSX

An 85 TSX exit wound, from 6.8, handloaded with SSA's powder, during testing.

Brother H can shoot!! 85 TSX, craftily threaded through the trees, right to the medulla, DRT

85 TSX, from a 12" barrel, at 230 yards. Shot through the shoulder, bullet lodged in the off-side, but this huge lunker went right down, right frggin' there!

OK, enough hoggin' this thread.....

I laughed the other day when the weather man said " we might have a little break the high will be 99". Were I've been working down close to Catarina about 40 miles from the border its been 110-116 degrees everyday on our pad sites. Not fun!! I've actually been looking forward to getting a tropical storm in the gulf....

6.8 is OK but shot placement is foremost, 5.56 to the neck is better than a 6.8 to the shoulder and a 308 off placed is good as both.

what I learned about caliber choice is that there is no replacement for displacement...(when you get in a tight spot you wished you brung the biggest )and it don't matter which one but stick to the same rifle or ones with the same velocity...I've picked up what ever, 5.56, 6.8 or my now 'go to' the AR-10 for back while my guest use my 5.56 & 6.8.
One night I'd run a 5.56 at 2900 fps....shoot at runners the next time a 6.8 with a slower vel. then go with the 308 at 2800.
It is just common sence to stick to the same thing when youn think about it.
I put alot of lead out there and have no ideal how many were mortaly wounded....I guess hundred's over the years.

Today was simply dreadful and depressing. 101, no clouds and no prospect for rain over the next few weeks. The Bermuda grass is dying, and worse, even the briars are dying. There are huge cracks in the earth, and you can see down into the ground for sometimes 2-3 feet. I have never seen that in over 40 years in Texas. Simply frightening.

Many ranchers seem so uneasy as they say, almost as if a necessity to keep sanity "...oh.... it will rain again....someday..." then you see that faraway, forlorn look like they are wondering if they believe it themselves.

The drought in Texas is becoming a real catastrophe.

The sad part is many people (city folk) don't realize just how bad it is and how it affects everything.

Hate to rub it in, but we finally got a legit 1.5" in the rain gauge here at the house yesterday. I spoke with a friend about 10 miles north of here, and he got nada. Maybe that strong high pressure zone will move off of us one of these days soon. /Rain dance/ Nobody wishes for hurricanes, but a little tropical activity might shake things up a bit?

This high pressure is firmly back in place, and is supposed to stay here for another 2 weeks or more. No real end in sight, unless we get something tropical, but even that seems unlikely at this point.
