You should have seen the setup I put him on. We were in a blind. About 20 pigs appeared out in a field. In the wide open, still broad daylight about 6:30 PM, very unusual. Over the next 20 minutes, they made their way straight to the feeder at about 75 yds. He got one. It would have been a slaughter with two experienced shooter in the blind, but it was AWESOME seeing him get his first big game kill.

Interesting thing is, I thought he made a really bad hit. I heard the bullet hit, but thought I watched the entire group run 400 yds across an open field with none of them looking seriously wounded. We stayed in the blind for nearly an hour after the shot. He was almost in tears.

When it started to get dark I pulled out the thermal and noticed a blip in the field about 250 yds out. There was still enough light that I could see it was something black and flat through the day binocs. We went and checked and it was a dead pig. His mood changed really quick!

He hit it very very low behind the shoulder, no bone (not where I told him to shoot it, but I'm sure his little heart was pounding). 120gr SST. Frags prob got the heart and it bled out running.

Whittling by the river

My daughter gets to go this weekend, she will be trying out her first .22 rifle. Got her this really sweet little T/C Hot Shot in pink camo.

VERY NICE

And to think I did not even get my first .22 until I was twelve.....

At least I do have a T/C Carbine in .22, .22 Mag, .223, and .44 Mag some 50 years later....

Good job Junior....and good job Dad. Now you can start to hand down your "old" guns and you will have to buy new guns.

Well the daughter seems to have the bug now too. We got one the first night, and the second night I heard "When when are the pigs gonna come Daddy? When when are the pigs gonna come Daddy?" about 100 times. Along with gems like, in a serious tone: "When they come, I want you to shoot a bunch of them Daddy."

No pigs on the second night, so she is learning about patience too.

Good to see so many folks raising these kids right nowadays, just like we were raised.

Good job OP.

So where did you tell him to shoot if you don't mind telling?

Draw a straight line from center of the shoulder to the ear, shoot right in the middle of that.

I made a diagram then we looked at some other hog pics online and had him point to the shoot spot as a test. He was just shaking/freaking out too much. He shot another one since this post and nailed it.

#2, crappy pic, 185lb boar, weighed.

Yeah that is a DRT shot. Will break the spine.

Plus, if you:

Miss a little left, shoulder shot.
Miss a little right, head shot.
You have a couple inched up/down leeway and it will still drop them too.

Frame that first pic and hang it on that boy's bedroom wall. Great job to both of you!
