Stock advice for my POF
I'm looking for a new stock for my POF P-415 Recon. I don't know about the rest of you but the rail on my rifle is really tall and prevents me from getting a proper cheekweld on my Vltor stock. I still want to be able to collapse the stock and would like it to ambi without having to change out parts like on the CAA stock. So far the only thing can think of atm is the Magpul CTR stock. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I have a P-415 that came with the Vltor stock also. I had the same problem with cheekweld because of the raised height of the Predator rail. I'm using a Magpul CTR stock now and it is much better. I tried switching back and forth between the two stocks to try to achieve a proper cheekweld and I am sticking with the CTR.

Are you using it with or without the higher cheekweld riser? I'm thinking about getting the CTR with the riser found here http://store.magpul.com/product/36/32 if I can't find something better.
That riser for the CTR looked real sexy until I looked a little closer. My suspicions were confirmed when I read the description, it states "This riser is for use on NON AR15/M4 applications as the riser will interfere with charging handle function," it wasn't so sexy any more. Just looking at how far the riser extends past the stock it appears the charging handle may still be slightly obstructed if the stock was fully extended. Would be a great product for a Blackhawk Axiom or Blackhawk Specops stock though.

No cheekweld riser. If you plan to use a red dot optic, I would also reccomend getting mounts that give you an absolute co-witness with your BUIS or otherwise it would be too high if you use a mount that gives you a 1/3 co-witness.
The riser on the CTR puts me dead on with my cheek weld with optics mounted in LaRue or ADM QD mounts. It's MUCH faster and more natural with this riser in place than without (as compared to my POF w/ a CTR w/o the riser). Believe I got the 1/2" riser, which is about the same as the increased rail height of the Predator rail.
Note that the charging handle WILL clear the riser when the CTR is fully extended, but it WILL NOT clear if the CTR is collapsed at all. You could cut off some of the forward extension of the riser to allow more clearance - I've not bothered with that yet (and would want to figure out a good way to minimize the resulting exposed/sharp edges if I did).
This is ok on my competition-only POF, so have the rail on that. Just be aware of the limitations of using the rail on an AR.
I have the 16" RECON and use the MI BUIS sights. I installed the Magpul ACS and found it gives me plenty of cheek weld, and the extra length is better as well. Unless your using something that is too high to co-witness with the iron sights.
there are also iron sights and BUIS that are shorter then those designed for use with a standard AR15, those do give a better cheek weld.
Also, use as low of a set of rings as possible. I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 power in a set of TPS medium rings. the room between the objective and rail is to the point that I do not have a butler creek cap on the front of the scope......but it is a really good cheek weld. I have found it is worth it to spend a little more time search for the perfect rings to match the objective of the scope to get it as low as possible with the POF rifles.............just my .02 worth........everyone is different, but this philosophy has been working well for me so far.
I guess I should have been a little more specific with my equipment. I have gen 1 mbus sights with a trijicon reflex on an ARMS mount. I normally wouldn't buy anything ARMS but I got the reflex and mount for $200 bucks and couldn't pass it up. Thanks for all the advice guys. I still haven't made my decision yet but at this point I'm thinking ACS or CTR.
