What .308 ammo works best for you?

I have a 20" POF 308 and was on on the range shooting various ammo. The ones i tried were the Hornady TAP LE 155gr and the Federal Gold MM 168gr.
I personally couldn't tell the difference at 100 yds other than where the groups were on paper. Actually i was between 1 and 2 moa i guess - shooting from bipod with monopod too.
It seems to me there is less kick with the hornady (probably because their 155gr?).

Anyways, I'm looking to get some more ammo, but would now like to stick to 1 brand, same gr bullet. Any suggestions? Originally zeroed in with Hornady 150gr custom SST... so the TAP 155gr was pretty close.

Would anyone recommend Blackhills match 168 gr over the other 2 i mentioned? It seems to be running for 1 - 2$ less per box than the other 2 as well.

Hornady 168 match worked the best for me so far. The recoil is a little less than Federal Gold Medal 168 but I grouped it a little better with Hornady. 100 yard 5 shot was about an inch. I tried Black Hills 168 match, and I kept having one flyer. (shooter error) It's pretty good too. Personally for the price, consistency, and availability I would go with Hornady. I never used TAP or SST. But the 168 BTHP match did really well for me. Prices on Black Hills in Hawaii is more expensive than Hornady by almost $9! In your case, maybe Black Hills is the way to go. Damn shipping and HAZMAT! Why do I have to live on an island. What is the price of Federal GMM 168 for you? What about Black Hills? Anyways, I hope this helps.

i order from ammunition to go... and right now - federal is 25.95, black hills match is 24.95, hornady tap le 168 gr or 155 gr 27.95.
i guess it might be between the black hills and the federal. The black hills gold with the hornady a-max tip is 27.95.

Give 175gr match a try too guys, or M118LR if you can get your hands on it. These rifles shine with some distance...........

That was the next projectile I was going to try. What kind of load would you recommend to start at? I worked up to 43.9 with 168 but had the best groups with 43.6. When you say distance, How far are you talking? We don't have a 1000 yard range in Hawaii. Or at least on the island of Oahu. I think the rifle groups pretty good at 100 yards.

168's should be good under 600 yards, and 175's take over at 500+ (not slouches inside 500).

Either bullet should have an accuracy node between 2550-2650 in a 20". I play around 500 mostly, and get caught longer sometimes, so I just run 175's.

SemiAuto's are not the easiest rifles to drive, and if I get ammo that AVERAGES around moa at 100 I know the rifle's shooting better than I am, then I try to work on me.

caveat-for some reason I cannot shoot for groups at 100 (probably because I'd rather train to hit moa-sized targets at all distances than to shoot groups from a bench).
I get a better group at 100 if you tell me I have 30 seconds to find my target and drop 5 shot on it prone than if you put me at a bench and give me unlimited time to shoot one group....

yeah - but everywhere i look 175's are getting pretty expensive - i think i saw some for $40 a box? I was thinking of sticking with black hills or federal gold. I liked the recoil better with the hornady. But i definitely have to stick with 1 type - especially when sighting in.. i suppose that's why people carry a reference around, for different brand ammo and loads.

Anyways - looks like ammunition to go has black hills at 24$ and cheaper than dirt has federal match for 24$
