I think it is a semi-auto version of a safety designed for military use. The interface between the safety bar and levers is dovetailed.
I would be interested in the 90 degree throw but I think it is made in 45 degree also.

I was going with the buy once cry once idea. That said you may be right that this is a solution to a problem that does not exist in the Bad Ass. Especially for a civi range rat like me.

i have a few of the originals with no problems, in fact i am about to pull my KAC ambi from my knights gun and do a original bad ass
