If you have a 6520, what height front sight post is on it?
Got a 6520 but the front sight post is bent badly on it. I need to replace it but I'm getting conflicting answers on what is the correct post. From what I've read on the forum, all fixed carry handle Colt carbines come with the taller front sight post, aka the 9mm front sight post. But talking to a couple very knowledgeable people who even looked up the correct replacement part in the Colt catalog I find that it should have the standard height front sight post. So I'm wondering, if you have a Colt 6520, could you tell me what height post you have on it, and if it came that way from the factory?
Thanks for any help.

Ser#LGC0xxxxx@5.9-6cm aprx. from top of bbl to top of ear, centered between post and bbl. Does that help.
Thanks, I'm actually looking for the height of the post itself. I think you gave me the height of the base.
Here's a pic so you can see what I'm getting at. The one on the right with the damage came out of my 6520. The one on the left if out of my 6721. Everyone is telling me that the one on the left (the shorter one) is correct for the 6520, so I'm trying to figure out why mine has a taller sight in it from the factory.

Who's telling you it's the short post?
As far as I know, all Colt carbines without an "F" marked FSB have come with tall front sight posts from the factory since the XM177. On the civilian side, every one since the SP1 Carbine in 1980 should have a tall front sight post.
When used with the "F" marked FSB, a standard rifle front sight post can be used.
If you do a search, Molon has a Colt front sight primer somewhere.
If that's what it came from from the factory, why're you questioning what to put back in it?

I spoke with Mark at Specialized Armament and he looked up the parts list for the 6520 and it shows the short tapered post as the correct post, part SP64665. Also spoke with the guy from Fidelis and he says short as well. Finally, Brownells lists the short post as the correct one. That's what's making me question it.
I think the short post is correct for the 6520 with a standard A2 receiver. For an A3 receiver, I believe the rail adds a little height to the rear sight, so you either need an F marked FSB which is higher or a taller front sight post. I believe this is the case with the 6720 which comes with a non-F FSB but a taller front sight post.
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Looking at your photo of the two sight posts.........
The damaged post look like it has been twisted and slightly pulled upward. It has a bit of a thinner section where the twist begins. I believe the sight started out like the one pictured on the left,,,,then became elongated as the metal pulled and twisted.
Don't know why the threaded section is shorter....
Go for the factory listed sight :)

Yep, should be the approximately .04" taller post.
