Someone school me on 9mm AR15 mags and magwells

Just picked up a LE ban era Colt 9mm carbine. Although I have been messing with AR15s for over twenty years now, this is my first entry into the 9mm area.
I did some research on the mag wells by reading the Black Rifle 2, and it seems that there was a first and second generation magwell adapter that was roll pinned in. My magwell adapter is the type that uses a set screw, so no receiver holes. Was this type just a Colt experiment that was in production for just a couple of years, as the new made ones are back to the roll pinned adapter?
Also, I am interested in getting some mags.
My rifle came with a LE marked, Colt marked 32rnd mag dated 1998 with a black plastic follower.
I bought what looks like an older C-Products 32rnd mag that has a dull and darker finish than the C-Products current blued looking mags with orange followers.
I have seen the Colt mags with metal followers for around $100.00 each. The metal followers look like they would activate the bolt catch better.
So, what is the best experiences you have had with different mags used in COLT 9mm carbines?
What is the deal with the generational magwell adapters?

As far as mags, check out CDNN, they have the best prices for the metalform mags. The metalform mags have the best rep for 9mm.
Ask over in the 9mm forum and they can probably give an answer for the mag block usage.

I have some Colt metalform mags, most will not activate the BHO feature. A couple had the "fountain of rounds" syndrome, where if you tap a loaded mag on the buttplate, all the rounds would squirt loose.
Despite their reputation as a company recently, the C Product mags work the best for me

I have the CDNN metal form mags. No issues.
As for the mag well, they are all roll pinned in. I dont think Colt made a set screw type. Thats sounds like some aftermarket stuff.

When I built my 9mm AR, I bought a Colt mag well adaptor and Colt mags. It's running like a top - 1500 rounds down the pipe with only 1 FTE which I chalk up to the ammo (different brand that I used for all the other rounds).

Colt did make setscrew-type blocks. You can see them here, http://www.autoweapons.com/photos/accys/colt.html toward the bottom of the page. They were made, IIRC, in the late 90s. I seem to remember reading that they sold a few 9mm carbines with these blocks, but switched back to the pinned type.

Guys were splitting receivers with the set screw type because they'd crank them down so hard - so Colt went back to the pin-in blocks.
Mags are hit and miss with 9mm ARs in general- but the metal follower Colt magazines are probably going to be your best bet.

Colt worked with Metalform and the newer mags are better. Cproducts are not shipped with Colt guns.
