 Are they Colt parts?

I passed on a used 6940 this week as I didn't want the LEO markings on the magazine housing. But I wondered afterwoods how can you verify that the main components are Colt. The last Colt I bought new was a pre-ban 6601. It had an MPC on the bolt behind the locking lugs, a 'C' stamped on the left side of the carrier and a C MP on the barrel. Are these marking still to be found on all Colt parts? I have put a number of AR's together over the years and parts like upper receivers, carry handles, stocks all look the same to me. Something I should be looking for? Thanks.

I have an R6601 like you and an LE6920 that is a year old and a brand spanking new SP6920 that I bought last week. All three have the same proof markings, the 6920's have the keyhole on the upper along with the "C" and the SP6920 also has a keyhole on the lower receiver, ejection side, in front of the trigger guard on the magwell. But yeah, MPC and C MP are where they should be on all three

You can also look at the notched hammer. I don't know for certain of any other manufacturers who use the notched hammer.

The Fire control group should also be marked.

Here is a good example of the markings taken out of a new 6920:

These are the exact same in my 6940.

Owned this gun for almost twenty years and never noticed the verified proof inside a triange and a 'C' inside a square on right side of upper receiver in area where the gas tube enters.
