7.62x39 AR build
well this is it. my first build.
PSA lower, PSA mil spec 6 position buffer tube and buffer. Magpul ASAP, magpul BAD lever, magpul moe grip with spare bolt insert, PSA lower parts kit with JP enhanced spring kit and set screw trigger mod= 4 lb pull, Mako GL shock stock,
PSA upper, PSA laser dust cover, AR performance 16" barrel with AR performance complete super bolt M16 carrier group and charge handle, Magpul Moe mid hand guard, Moe hand guard sling attach loop, magpul AFG2, YHM GB flip up front sight and matching YHM rear flip up sight.
phamtom CS5 FH..
not the best pics

That is an impressive rifle

How does it shoot?
thanks guys. its was alot of fun and headache to build. seems like you can read the how to's many times over and still manage to forget something or do something wrong on your first build
still doing some minor trouble shooting for FTE. talked with other 7.62x39 builders to get me started. my first problem was gas block not being lined up correctly. seems theres not much room for error on that

. corrected that and FTE improved 90%..
as in the pics I also used the H2 buffer and someone suggested to try an H3. I did but that was just too heavy as it would not allow the bolt to lock open on empty mag. so I picked up the H buffer last week but have not had time to get to the range yet to try it.
shooting took some getting use to using the GL shock stock. when shooting I would normally pull the rifle firmly into my shoulder. but in doing so with this stock I was pulling back too much, pulling all of the travel out of the stock which resulted in extra recoil.
after about 100rds I learned to relax and just rest the rifle into my shoulder. now it shoots great.
so now this is my up close and personal gun and I added a stikefire red dot last week. next project will be turning my 16" 5.56 carbine upper into a 18" or 20" middy long distance shooter.
Looks good. I need to post some pics of my recent build. I built a 7.62x39 on a PSA lower using a PSA parts kit, Magpul MOE stock and grip. I when with an MI forend. The barrel I used was an ESS solution SOCOM style barrel. I love it and the customer service was awesome. I am using ASC mags from AIMsurplus. The only issue I am having is the last round bolt hold open not getting activated. I contacted ASC and they said they are redesigning their follower and will send me some new followers when they are finished.
Overall I am very happy with the 7.62. You hear a lot of people talking trash about them but I like my 7.62x39 pocking larger holes at just over $4 a box for steel cased ammo. I have put about 400 rounds through it with only one failure to feed (which I think was the person shooting it not having the mag seated all the way). Also for my buffer I am using the carbine buffer.

sounds good. yeah can't beat the ammo price for sure.I even run wolf in my DPMS lopro classic.
bolt lock back also is my only minor problem left. after getting the GB lined up right and running heavy lube for break in, I have almost no FTE's. last range time was I think 2-3 FTE's outta 300rds. before that got a FTE every 7-8 rds.
I got 10 ASC mags. no problem out of any one mag but do get a fail to lock back bolt every 4-5 mags. but its never the same mag...go figure! so I'm still thinking its the buffer weight. H3 is too heavy for sure. running the H2 now. next week looks like I will have time to get to the range to try the H buffer. most people say the H2 should do it. but without knowing the gas port size and the added weight of the m16 carrier I just think it still too heavy. will find out soon.
I too am running the M16 bolt carrier from BCM. I think the buffer may be a little heavy. I shot another 150 rounds yesterday out of mine and the bolt hold open didn't engage three times. I truly think the follower will fix that. But zero FTE or FTFeed. I am so happy with this. I laugh at the nay sayers out there that hate on the 7.62x39. This thing is spot on with TUL and Wolf ammo. I also run Wolf in my 5.56 though. I believe a good rifle will shoot any ammo, if SHTF then I don't want to have to be picky about finding nice shiney brass ammo for my white glove gun safe queen.
I definately recommend getting ahold of ASC about the followers.

did they say what the difference is in the new follower? when did they start using the new follower and how would I know if I do or don't have them already in my mags? I got my mags around 2 or so months ago...
Sorry the response is sooo late. I have been very busy with work and gradschool. I just emailed them back today to see if they have the new followers. They told me end of March beginning of April in the previous email. The follower is supposed to be slightly longer than the follower in the mags now. I have still been feeding my 7.62 every chance I get. It may be my favorite gun in the safe. I like my Spike 5.56 but this PSA/ESS 7.62 is awesome. Absolutley zero feed or fire issues thus far (about 600 rounds thru it now)
ASC responded to my email immediately. They are mailing me the followers today. If you are still having issues with the bolt hold open I would either email them or call them. They responded to all of my emails very quickly.
been pretty busy here myself. will email them and see..
Very nice, make sure you post in the 7.62x39 and Palmetto pic threads!
Nice build.
