Mako Mossberg Stock Adaptor Kit
The kit includes the Mako AR-15 pistol grip, and it will enable you to mount any AR-15 stock or any other AR-15 pistol grip onto your shotgun.
Putting an AR-15 collapsible stock on everything seems to be all the rage these days and we sell a ton of these M4 style stock for every long gun imaginable. Manufactures are even offering gun with these types of stocks configured from the factory. We have always wanted to try this type of setup out and the review of the Maverick 88 Security presented us the perfect excuse.
There are several ways to attach an M4 style stock to your shotgun offered by several different manufacturers. The least expensive styles force you to use their stock or at the least a proprietary buffer tube. The products that allow you to attach the stock of your choice seem to run well over $100 and they do not include a pistol grip.
The Mako brand adaptor is made in the USA and includes all the hardware needed to attach to the gun and attach the included pistol grip.
We tried out three different buttstocks and four different grips on our Maverick shotgun and this adaptor proved to be just the ticket for anyone needing the adaptability and versatility of being able to attach M16 grips and stocks to your shotgun.
The Mako adaptor held up very well during testing, if any weak points were found they were in the stocks or grips themselves.
Conclusion
We concluded that if a shooter requires or wants an M4 style stock on their Remington 870, Mossberg 500A, or Maverick 88 than this product at this price point is value that is tough to beat. This type of set-up may be perfect for shooters that need a different length of pull for different configurations or for a gun that two or more shooters share and need different LOPs, like a father and son team. None of us particularly preferred any of the AR-15 style stocks we tested over the standard Maverick buttstock. The different pistol grips made a distinct difference in the comfort and shootability of this setup, but none of the grips tested were preferred over the standard Mossberg setup. This may be contrary to the popularity of this type of setup, but this may be explained by the fact that most of us are very familiar with the standard stocks on shotguns, and shoot with them competitively.
Our favorite grip on this was the
Magpul MIAD, followed closely by the
TAPCO SAW grip. Our favorite stock was the
Vltor EMOD followed by the standard
M4. None of us cared for the
Duostock or the Mako AG-43 that came with this kit. (That may be because of the finger grooves on the grip.)
Installation was a snap:
Removing the recoil pad.
Removing the stock.
Preparing to attach the adaptor.
Attaching the adaptor.
Adaptor installed
Grip attached to adaptor.
The
Duostock and the Mako AG-43 setup was disliked by most shooters.
The
UTG M4 stock was adequate and one user preferred the
UTG grip.
The
EMOD with the
MIAD was hands down our favorite configuration, but it was still secondary to the factory stock.
The
EMOD with the
SAW was almost as good as the MIAD setup.
