 M5 RAS blem/oopsy possibly.

Long time Knight's fan.

Picked up a nice 2nd hand M5 RAS for my A4 build. Or, so I thought...Assembled it per instructions, and everything fit tight and good-but something struck me as odd.

Where was that little spring tongue thing that is supposed to go under the fore-end cap? Took it apart, and it appears it was never there...and there was no stress marks or indications that it was snapped off by the previous owner.

By all visual indications and markings this is a real M5, not airsoft or counterfeit. Are there RAS M5s out there without the spring tongue, and/or should I worry about it? A real deal PEQ is going to sit on this rail, and I want it to retain zero, but fortunately it does seem plenty snug and secure.

Just curious-I don't think Knight's is liable for a previous user boinking the spring thingy, but it would be nice to know if the KAC presence here has any history or input. Thanks.

BTW-I have a RAS on my 727 build, and I have had nothing but good luck with the various accessories-sling mounts, VFGs, BUIS and so forth. Big time KAC proponent.

Is it missing the retaining peace for the flat spring as well? Way back around 2005 when we received our rail systems before we deployed we came across a few sets like that. The supply guys just canabalized parts when a weapon went down since we didnt use all the rails. I have a spring and retainer you can have, you would just need the retaining pin.

Your a good man, I may take you up on that offer. Thanks.

The roll pin is holding a retaining part (which looks similar to the barrel stop), but it looks like the lip spring portion is completely AWOL. Not even a bright shiny strip of material where it should have been. Just an empty pocket.

I am thinking that I should dig out the camera and post a pic. This is most definitely a KAC part; June 12 production of '06 (Titusville)

Yeah sounds like you just need the spring.

Thank you for the generosity, you are a man of your word. You have brought the M5 back to life. Let me know if I can ever return the favor.

Awesome!

I would have except I read this as a warning against 2nd hand parts.
If he can post some photos so I am sure what parts he needs I will send what he needs.

Thank you guys-I have had great luck with KAC customer service in the past on real issues. I.e. Casey at Lawman's always set the standard in solid C.S.

That being said, I did buy the thing 2nd hand from a poster here in the EE/Hometown section. The pic did not demonstrate the flat spring. I should have paid closer attention to detail-my gig, not KAC, or even the seller's...just an oversight, somewhere along the line this thing got stripped of a part.

I buy factory retail when I can afford to, but this was just what I was looking for, at the time.

Props again to sgtward911 for chiming in, and helping a fellow KAC fan in Kalifornia. Regards!
