11" Alpha Battlerail---- First impressions---- (Alpha porn added)

As usual, the machining is boringly perfect (something that I have noticed about all TROY products). I have a 15" XTR Battlerail with the old mounting system, which was fine, but this Alpha system is simple, yet genius, uses your standard barrel nut, and is really easy to install. The only exterior difference between the Alpha and the old is that the new one does not have the tab hanging down in front of the magwell and it does have 3 button head allen screws that are visible a little over an inch from the upper receiver. I'll take those button heads over the tab, any day. As far as structural changes, the mounting system seems to be all that was changed. It is still the ultra slim light rail that the old one was.

There is a twist. I ordered the Alpha with the built-in sight and I must say that this is one slick unit. At first, I tried to pull the sight up like I would any of my other TROY sights and it wouldn't budge. I thought that maybe the button had to be pushed to allow it to be flipped up. I pushed that button and the sight flipped out of there like a switchblade. A smile immediately took over my face in my amazement. Talk about exceeding expectations.... I'm there! The built in sight has a very slight transverse movement (side to side), but it is a backup sight and I'm sure that the slight movement will still allow M.O.M. accuracy. I'm sure that if it were made much tighter that it would not flip up with just the push of the button. The best thing about it is that it isn't in the way when I don't need it and it rests flush with the rail when not deployed. The built in sight is there when I need it, but looks like it isn't there, for the most part. I think it is a great idea and was well executed.

ETA: I am using a Noveske 10.5" barrel with a A2 flash hider. The rail was a little longer than I expected (11 1/4"). I plan to use a can later and will cut the rail back and modify the underside of the sight a bit if it impedes the use of whatever mount that is required. I was concerned about the flash hider being partially covered by the rail. I thought that it may divert gasses toward the handhold, but it didn't. It does seem to project the fireball forward, similar to what a Noveske Pig does. I think it looks pretty mean with just that little nub of a flash hider sticking out.

+1 for the TROY Alpha Battlerail.... WELL DONE!!!!

Duh..... just realized that I didn't get any pics with the sight up. I will post some later....

Does it come with a supplied barrel nut for new builds?

Uses your standard barrel nut. No barrel nut supplied. They are extremely inexpensive though. I have sold them recently for $6 shipped. certainly not a dealbreaker.

Thank you. The way things mount to the XTR is a little different than the VTac. I prefer the TROY system.
