Saw a Bushmaster C15 upper in there. Run. Run away. Not enough bandwidth here to fully describe the nightmare experience I had with that gun. Still going through the mess. Should never have been offered. The gun itself is a birth defect. Did I mention that it was junk?

You could get a BCM 14.5 LW upper and cut off the FSB and put a VTAC handguard on it.

16" PredetAR from LT works for me. A hair over 6 pounds out of the box.

Linky 6.5lb according to their site. Not too shabby, and the price is nice too.

Got any links to any range reports on these? What kind of accuracy are guys getting with these?

You could try searching in the LaRue Industry forum but if the name is any indication, I'm guessing you'll find glowing range reports and accuracy not to be scoffed at!

Yeah, I would doubt you'll have any accuracy issues with a Larue Rifle.

If you want an ultralight though you'll have to build from parts, and you'll have to drop a bit of coin on some things, and ultralights tend to lean a bit more function over form.. IMO at least.

Colt 6520 is what I'd get.

I'm not a fan of really light rifles though. I'm right at home at 7 to 7.5 pounds.

IMO, a lightweight AR would be an A1 upper with no forward assist, no optics, pencil barrel, CAR HG & the old-style CAR stock, & 20 rnd straight GI mag. You can find several examples of these rifles in the IDF KISS thread.

You have pretty much eliminated all the areas where you can save a lot of weight by your stipulations, though.

Basically about all that's left is to look for a pencil barrel.

i agree with this modo!

IF you have money to spend you can get really crazy on things to do.

you can build an AR15 under 5lbs for $1700 with iron sights IF you want to get crazy, I built mine for around 1700 with an Eotech 511 and it weighs in a 5lbs 4oz, the Eotech weighed in a 7.5oz so if you figure minus that plus some iron sights youd be right under 5lbs, BTW the $ 1700 was including my Eotech 511 and the custom cf hood so you can maybe get away with something alot lighter and some what cheaper with iron sights (MBUS)

this build is not using a Calvary Arms lower nor any bushmaster carbon15 parts (but i did screw up and never put on any Iron sights) if I could go back in time I really would put a front sight on this and a MBUS rear sight and be under 5lbs. live & learn.

ARonly, that's an awesome rifle. When I do a lightweight build, i seriously am considering doing exactly what you did. If you don't mind sharing, minus the eotech, how much did it set you back??

Thanks for all replies.

I'm leaning towards a 14.5" LW with pinned hider, mid length, Just not sure the maker yet.

I'm liking the Sampson Evolution hand guard.

know I'm looking for a 14.5" LW upper
