Why is my AR so much louder?
I recently finished putting together a 16" barrel mid length build. It just seems to be louder then normal. A few people have mentioned it to me. I've put ~300 rounds through it with out any issues. I have only shot Lake City xm193 through it so far. It has a standard A2 flash hider on it. Any ideas?
Double hearing protection.
Contact your local FFL to see if it's legal for you to get a suppressor.

Yes, PA is suppressor friendly. It doesnt bother me at all, I am just curious if something may be going on with it.
deleted, misread something
Probably just a hot batch of m193. Have you shot it side by side to another Ar?
louder than what?
,my 16" with A2 flashhider is loud too compared to a 24" bolt action with a target crown.
remove your flashhider, should help. Or you could try a levang or other linear comp.
One of these will do the trick :)

What's the origin of the noise?
It's not coming from the vents in the bolt carrier?
Too much gas? Just thinking out loud.
Moon
guns are loud
Put one of these on the end and she'll bark.

I've been told that about my 16" middy running xm193.
PMC .223 was quieter.
It's the ammo....I swear the latest batches of xm193 are really hot loads.
When I was shooting my 16" carbine I had a few guys come ask me if it was a .308. Now I do have a muzzle break which doesn't help quiet things at all, but even out of my G/F's AR with A2 it was very loud. I bet you get a lot more flash with that ammo than others. I know we were.
I would Say it is the ammo. Shooting side by side my buddy is running federal 5.56 is much louder than mine running pmc .223
Nothing about your particular rifle will make it louder than another set up the same way. Id say it's just the ammo too.
You want loud?? Come shoot my Sabre Professional with that damn Gill brake....Oh and don't forget the muzzle blast..
I wouldnt worry about it. Guns are suppose to be loud. It tells the bad guy , you dont mess around.
Check your chamber and throat dimensions. If they are tight then you may be shooting M193 at proof load pressures.
There's clearly something wrong and potentially dangerous with your new stick.
Since I'm also in PA I will do the responsible thing and take it off your hands before someone gets hurt
Joe
Shorter barrel
Muzzel device
Ammo type
All effect noise
I got some ammo in a trade That appeared to be some type of military ball. I forget the headstamp but it was so loud I checked it
to make sure it wasn't handloaded . I ran it over my chrono and it was just good full power 55 gr ball but it must have been some other than average powder as it had a whole different level of blast and flash.
If you move to any type of partially enclosed range from the open outdoors a AR type gun with a flash hider or break will tweak the ears .
Even a simple roof over pavillion will direct lots of noise and blast back at you and ajoining shooters
My 12.5" SBR with AAC Muzzle brake is stupid loud in one of those little booths some gun ranges have.. It's painful even with double hearpro. Now, slide the suppressor over the brake, and she's quiet!

Had you normally ran a flash suppressor and now running a break on your new build?
If so that's why.
