Vanguard Hard Side Bow case for flying w/ AR?

Sorry, have never gotten the hang of posting a link here. Mine does not have the combination locks on them but there are four latches with a keyed lock and holes for external locks. I intend on locking all four holes with padlocks. I believe this will give my AR the protection it needs physically, be less "menacing" and hopefully be small enough that I won't incur additional fees due to size (It's 40" long). Just want some feedback as I'd rather avoid dropping 200 bucks on a new case, if this will work. Thanks in advance!
I used a pelican case when I traveled with my bolt gun a few years ago. Locked the case with locks then took duck tape and wrapped the whole thing up to make more of a PIA to get open or steal.
