Carbine handguard question

Whats the difference between carbine handguards and colt carbine handguards? I just ordered a set of handguards and realized I ordered the colt carbine size but don't have a colt carbine? And I gonna have to call up and change my order or will they work

Your question is a little unclear.... so I'm not sure I'm giving you the right answer - but are you talking about MI and/or YHM non-free floated carbine length rails?
If so, the indexing "notches" (reversed cut outs) on the handguard cap that "lock" into notches on the handguard rail and help keep it from rotating around vertically are deeper than those that commercial manufacturers use.

The M203 clearance cuts are present on some commercial caps, and absent on some Colts depending on model number - I'm talking about the two rectangular cuts at the 3 and 9 o'clock.
*IF* you're talking about those railed handguards, that's all the "Colt" and "Non-Colt" dimensions are referring to.
Most manufacturers simply size their cuts for the Colt dimension, and sell only one version. A small number of companies sell different versions for the different handguard caps - but if you got the Colt version for a commercial cap, I wouldn't worry about it. If you got a commercial version for a Colt cap... well, there's always the Dremel and the flat file.

Yea I bought a set of yhm quad rail handguards and they had 4 sizes listed.... Colt carbine,carbine,mid and rifle. I ordered a Psa carbine upper recently and wanted to change the handguard. Well I noticed I accidents ordered the colt carbine version not the carbine version.
The yhm guards I bought are not free float though and are a 2 piece set. I just wasn't sure what the differences were and if they would work or do I need to call and switch my order
