Who owns a PSA upper with a perm attached muzzle device?
Is your weld pretty much impossible to see? I cannot find a weld on mine, but if I look really closely it does look like the flash hider has been smoothed out. I am assuming it was ground smooth after being pin/welded. The entire upper looks to be the nicest upper I have ever bought and I hope it shoots the same way, I got the 14.7'' pinned lighter weight middy. Looks really nice as KISS rifle beside my Spike's 14.5'' with a pinned dynacomp.
Mine is on the underside of the FH. Definitely not super easy to see, but not impossible to find. It was welded, ground, then reblued.
I have one (bought a year ago) and I can see the weld. Plenty of other people have produced photos where the weld was barely noticeable.
I am going to have to pin mine cause I wanted a Phantom flash suppressor. Wish it was an option for PSA.
As am I. Wish there were more options available.
I ordered one and could not find the weld at all. I was expecting it to be visible like my Spikes is.

Same with mine.

Mine was very neatly done. I could see the weld marks but you need it under a light.
So, do you prefer the weld spot being visible, or hidden?
This is typically what our pin and weld job looks like on an A2 flash hider.

I can't see mine. And I'm happy about that.

I prefer mostly hidden. IME, there's always enough trace evidence of a pin & weld and that's good enough. Sounds like you guys do a beautiful job pinning & welding FH's (smoothed & re-blued on the weld point too). Please don't change a thing in that department.

I think they need a laser-etched label......
WELD SPOT HERE ––––>
You're in a tough business.
Beautiful job. Just wish we had more choices.
Mine is pretty easily identified, and I'm glad of that. Last thing I want is some goober claiming I'm breaking NFA laws and not be able to show the weld.
Hidden. This is good.
I almost had to pull out the oversized Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass, but I finally found the (well-hidden) weld spot on my 14.7" pinned lighter-weight middy. It looks great (i.e. hidden = good), and if you didn't know what you were looking for (me –– this is my dive-in-head-first introduction to the AR world!) it's almost invisible.
IMO that's perfect right there.
This is what mine (or rather my mom's––I built it for her) looks like:
I actually posted a near-identical thread a few months ago about precisely this issue. The weld spot was so well-hidden (the pic actually makes it seem more obvious than it is) I thought PSA had failed to pin it.
As for your question PSA, to be honest I'm kind of indifferent. I may lean towards hidden, but if it saves you guys time/money (I'm all about businesses making as much profit as they can without doing unethical things) I wouldn't care if t was left exposed.
And BTW, the upper––a 14.5" middy––runs flawlessly with a variety of different ammo, including Wolf and Silver Bear. Recoil is also very soft; it's not overgassed or anything.
I'd almost rather mine be visible. Just for piece of mind and the possibility of not catching crap from the ATF. Maybe I'm just paranoid and used to being able to see the weld. My bcm and spikes were very easy to see.
That's really being paranoid. People at the range? Tell them to mind their own business. ATF? Why would the ATF be looking that closely at *your* upper? The ATF doesn't care if it looks welded or not anyway –– their test is wrench and twist. PSA does a fine pin/weld job and ya'll (well a minority % of you anyway) want them to make adjust their process to make it more boogered lookin'?
You can still tell its welded just fine with their current non-amature-hour-looking process.

FWIW an ATF agent was at the local range once and did randomly look over a a few guns. This was years ago...but it can happen.
I'm betting you have a larger chance of being hit by lighting at the range TWICE than seeing a ATF agent there
