Got a chance to get one at a really good price. Good enough for a trunk gun?

Any gun made by any company needs to prove itself before it should be trusted in any self defense role. That means different things to different people. I say a few hundred malfunction free rounds of whatever you intend to use in it is a good start. It is up to you to determine what you feel comfortable with. If a particular DPMS proved itself to me, I would trust it.

Some people will tell you yes. They will also tell you that a Tasco scope is as good as a Nightforce or Zeiss.

Some people will tell you no. That's me.

Don't think I've ever seen a "having problems with my new DPMS" thread on here, have seen alot of others though.

nothing at all wrong with a DPMS. i have 2. 1 223 and 1 in 7.62x51. both are great. also have 5 other AR's.

When I have bought a pistol for self defence or home defense, i personally run a min of 300 rounds through it before putting it to use. This also includes 100 to 150 of the chosen carry rounds. Just a thought.

The DPMS rifle will not fail you. I have one myself and has yet to fail on me.

Only rule to follow:

Take care of your rifle and it will take care of you.

Get something to carry the mags in. Test all the mags to go with it. Put a sling and light on it. Keep fresh batteries for the light and optics. Keep it in a spot out of sight and learn to lock the truck. Park in a safe spot at home and out. Learn all local laws about where it/ you can can't be. Keep the gun clean and wet.

A DPMS gun that has been tested and found to run great is just fine for a truck gun. I have 7k through mine without one issue (outside of one bad mag, RIP).
