What barrels are known for accuracy?

I need a new 20" barrel for my varmint gun. It's currently set up in A2 configuration, but doesn't necessarily need to stay that way.

I'm getting about 2MOA out of my current barrel and want to get down to under 1. Is anyone specifically known for good barrels?

are you handloading? If not what ammo? Stock trigger?

2 MOA off a solid front rest, bagged rear.

when you fellas leave questions they need to be more detailed. most poster won't bother to help!

your post Should be..............................

I have a brand X? A2 rifle , 1-9 twist 20". I'm runnin a good known scope, holds 0 and track's fine, stock trigger about 6-7 lbs.
Any idea's?

if you come on here with vague posts then say your shootin shit ammo some shit 55 open base ball. It simply saves time.........

you can't chase accuracy with shit ammo. it's really that simple. you won't be in any egg shoots with Wolf, ect,ect..........
I tried my best handloads and some Factory Hornady 68 match, ect,ect............ it still won't group 2 MOA is the best?

Heres a store built upper. $290.00 minus BCG,CH. ........Red X Arms 20'' Bull. I bought it just to see what an upper from a store could do!

I paid $299.00 for my last barrel!

I'll load up some 69 SMK's for a true evaluation, cheap azz soft nose bulk handloads have been very good. Around 1 MOA for a 5 spot!

A 68-69 I'm sure will beat it! possibly a good 52.

your 2MOA barrel might be better than you think!

Alot options for barrels that "will and can" shoot under 1".
Rock River Arms Match
White Oak Armament
Of course then there are higher end barrel makers it all depends on how much you want to spend.

Plus the rest of your platform - optics, mount, handguard, trigger etc...
Most importantly it depends on you the shooter.
Good Luck

Seriously, The bbl is a Bushmaster 1/9 HBAR, A2 hand guards.
The trigger was worked over by Bill Springfield, way better than a stock trigger.
The scope is a Leupold MK AR in a LT104.
I get similar results with all ammo I have used. I don't reload for rifle. The bullet I'm using is a 55gr Vmax in new brass. I can get sub MOA with it in other rifles, so It's not me or the round.

Never the less and not withstanding all of the above, My question wasn't if I was fucked up or not. I knew the variables. It was a simple question really: Who makes good barrels?

That makes it alot easier

I think I'm gonna try one of those Fulton Arms Criterion SS 20" HBARs soon.$199.00 I have a couple WOA 20" service SS wilson blank barrels built up also. very nice for $205.00. 1-7 twist

I just built a 204 with a wilson combat barrel. I can't comment on accuracy yet.as it's not hit the range yet. They also offer 223 wylde and 5.56 barrels.

Probably the best shootin barrels I own are RRA Predator Pursuit and a very old Olympic Arms SUM 1-10 twist.

I really don't think I've read a bad review on RRA's PP. or bull varmint rigs.

really most barrels are pretty good nowadays. Considering Red X sells that 20" SS 1-8 Bull barrel for $130.00. and it was slinging 5 of my blastin loads into around 1.25 @ 100.

Maybe to a google for more reviews.

good luck

well in my book 2 MOA offhand is some dang fine shootin!

rested and bagged you'd most likely cut that in half!

my stag 24" bull barrel came with a 1/2 MOA guarantee that it lives up to with several off the shelf rounds.

I'm about to assemble a 14.5" middy, the barrel is a match one from rainier arms and is suppose to have the same sub MOA guarantee, i'll see how it does when it's all put together. (same throat and twist as my 24" so i'm hoping i can use the same bullets and get similar-ish results)

yes. really alot of barrels are good quality nowadays. As long as a good machine operator cut's the chamber concentric to the bore and the barrel has a good crown on the muzzel end your set.

I think a good many manufactures use a variation of a wylde reamer on there varmint type barrels. OP is gettin 2 MOA offhand with good ammo so that barrel ain't no turd. my position shootin is far worse than HABU's

you'll notice I cheat a good deal when varmint huntin. Just doin my best to eliminate operator error!

Truth is, they all shoot pretty good, that's a relative term, for the last nth of an inch, that's where money comes in, and where the buyer actually sees it first hand, and it's there to see.ETA my Noveske is Really accurate, I would recommend them too

You're shooting 2 moa off hand and not only complaining about it, but blaming the rifle?

Put it on a rest. See how accurate the rifle is, not yourself. Then you can fine tune what ever area needs improvement.

Sure.

Lilja, Kreiger, Obermeyer, Shilen, Douglas, Hart, Mike Rock make complete barrels or at least blanks

Compass Lake Engineering and White Oak are probably the two top custom barrelsmiths in the AR world for competition barrels.

I don't reload so I can only comment on performance with factory ammo. I get 5 shot groups at 1 MOA or a bit better with a Rainier 18" Ultramatch using factory Fiocchi 50 grn VMax. 1:8 twist with a Wylde chamber. Shooting from a bench with a Leopold Mk AR 3x9 scope.

2moa is AK territory. What ammo? Optics? Off a rest? No need to replace a barrel if its the ammos (or shooters) fault.

The Rainier ultramatch 18" Shilien 5R is giving me sub-moa easily with 75gr handloads.. Im talking easily less than an inch at 200y, off front and rear bags, 9x scope, and a good shooter. Skip the flutes.

Had a Fulton Armory 1/8 20" HBAR that shot an inch or better as well. Cleaning was involved. Heavy beast.

There are a lot if good barrels out there.

All of the noveske stainless barrels I have seen have been sub moa by a good margin.

Don't forget Lothar Walther barrels from Georgia. That LW50 steel in my 18inch AR with a dialed in handload is 3/4 MOA all morning long even with a very bad "shakes the clown" type of hangover. On the Bench of course :)
