I'm using an A2 stock. What buffer and spring? I'm looking at these:

Tubb Speedlock spring

DPMS buffer

What works for you?

The buffer you need to run an A2 stock is the rifle buffer not carbine. I believe the srping is specific to the rifle and not the carbine as well.

The SOCOM was designed from the ground up to use standard Rifle and CAR buffers and springs. All those fancy buffers and springs will work but they are not needed, and often with the HB and XP springs they can turn your rifle into a jam-o-matic.
The .458 SOCOM is NOT your 5.56, so get the idea out of your head that what is great in a 5.56 is also great for the .458 S. The .458 S with a midlength gas is a perfect example of this thinking and all it has done is cause problems for their owners. Sure, the problems can be overcome with a powder change but if RR had never caved to those who wanted a midlength gas (and did not have the slightest idea of what they were talking about) and brought out the midlength gas anyway, those problems never would have crept up in the first place.
Point? Don't get hung up on getting fancy buffers and springs. They are not needed and may cause you problems that you otherwise would not have.
A2 stock, standard rifle buffer and rifle spring will get you going.

plus one on what big bore said . the socom runs best plain vanilla. you might go the a1 route since the buttstock is 5/8 inch shorter and put a recoil pad on . I saw several different types of pads for ar,s the last time I was down at the local black rifle shop.

I am also expecting my rra 458 upper anyday and need a lower to go with it. What else should i look to add or leave out of a new lower? adjustable or fixed stock, etc

Personally, I like the ACE FX with pad.

That's what I use on most of my setups (6.8, .458, 243 WSSM, 6.5). Most of my guns look so much alike (except my 5.56 setups) that you can't tell what they are until you check out the bore....

I have an A1 stock with a regular A2 buffer and spring. Never had a hick up.
