What is the difference between a pistol buffer and a normal one? Could I get away with using a normal one? Pistol is intended as an sbr transition piece. Do I HAVE to have a "pistol buffer" tube to be legal or something? Sorry for all the q's

Use a pistol buffer tube that is carbine length. A "pistol" buffer tube is one that will not accept a stock. You can modify a carbine stock using J & B expoxy to fill in the holes or machine it down. Truthfully, it's simpler to use a pistol buffer tube like the one sold at Spikes.
The carbine length is the most reliable in function. The shorter ones can and do have issues.
