Critique my pistol build?
Hi everyone, never thought about building a pistol until 2 weeks ago and am obsessed with the idea of having one (or more) now. This would just be a fun little range toy and nothing more.. One of those "just to have" kind of builds.
Anyway, on to the list of parts I had in mind for the upper.
PSA 7.5" barrel with YHM low profile gas block
Noveske KX3
Spike's Tactical SAR 9" rail
MEGA Arms billet side-charging upper
Young mfg N/M bolt with side charger
EOTech XPS2-0
What tube/cover are you gonna use?

Are you referring to the gas tube? Isn't it just a pistol length?
I'm not too sure, if you could clarify it would help me with making sure nothing is left out.
Have you ever seen the arms Super extended osr swan sleeve ? I'm building another pistol, and I just picked a swan sleeve up from brownells. It covers all the way from receiver to the end of a carbine free float. I like the look of it. There is the link, I've never seen a pistol with one.

He is talking about the receiver ext/buffer tube. Your build sounds nice, for me I'd skip the Noveske pig as it adds more weight than I want on an AR pistol and I just don't love the look (for me). IMO if you want that type of muzzle device there are others that work almost as well that are half the weight or less.
I see.. I'll most likely go with the PSA pistol lower build kit.
Im doing the same thing kinda with mine I'll have a 8" barrel with a 9" rail so only the fat part of the KX3 will stick out. Thinks its gonna look really nice. You might wanna check and see it the KX3 will fit inside the SAR rail though I went with the BAR rail cause it is made with a bigger ID to accomedate a recessed can. Not sure if the SAR is or not. The od on the KX3 is 1.35 mines acutally 1.375.
I was alittle concerend that i would have to take the rail off every time i cleaned the gun to get the piggy off but the KX3's front cone screws off and is reccomened to be taken off while cleaning so you can do that without acctally removing the thing.
As far as the weight of the KX3 it weighs 7oz man with a 7.5 barrel your hands gonna be gripping most of the lenght of the raill with very little hanging over to thow off the balance so theres not gonna be much you to can do to make it wiegh to much unless your a 6 year old girl

Hmm I do remember seeing a KX3 partially recessed in a SAR rail. The SAR inner diameter is 1.5" which means you should have roughly 0.15" of clearance.
ETA: Here's a link to the pictures I saw. Looks pretty sweet!

Yea but did you read how is having to go about putting it on. Sounds like a pain in the nuts to me
"Ran into a small issue when I began installing the barrel & FS. The Barrel nut on the SAR is a slip fit for the rail and it is just slightly smaller then the KX3. So with the KX3 installed on the barrel the rail would not pass by. However I did figure out a solution, but already used my only crush washer, so I will need to pick up another one today. I need to install the KX3 on the loose barrel after the barrel nut and gas block go first, then feed it down the front of the rail and out the bottom so the barrel can be torqued down. "
The bar rail is 1.79 Id so it still Nice and close but not so tight you'll have to go trough that. You would just have to take the rail off in the case you need to remove the kx3 unless im reading that wrong in Dunno I will have my barrel and rail in next weeks I'll let you know how it works. But it sounds like you might wanna take a closer look at getting the bar over the sar. Like I said it is sepeficly designed for what your trying to do
I believe when the KX3 is installed under a 1 piece rail system people recommend using a strap wrench to properly torque it.
