Which is a good company?
Im looking to buy a quality piston system upper to tryout and was wondering which company i should buy from. Ive heard great things about Adams Arms but who else is good or are they even noteworthy?
Im not trying to break the bank but if i need to pay $800 or $900 to get something even worth trying i can save to do that. Im looking for an upper that will be pretty accurate at 100yds (at least 1.5 or 2 MOA) but would still be a nice home defense or tactical gun. I would like it to have a 16" or 18" barrel.
Is that kind of accuracy achievable from a piston gun that is under $1000?
Thanks so much.

Core 15 make a piston gun in you price range
they use the AA piston in their guns pretty decent sticks
And they have a lifetime warranty
buy an Adams arms from western sports online

I'm very happy with my EVO upper from Western Sports
Would either of those uppers provide the accuracy i want?
Following my horrible experience with Adams I'd never recommend them to anyone. They may make a nice product but good luck if you ever need to contact them.

What had happened to your gun?
I'm curious as well. They've always responded to me promptly and send replacement parts when needed. That was quite some time ago though. They have since gotten a lot more popular.
OP
if youre ok with used you can find LWRC M6A1 and A2 uppers for around 1000 thats the way id go

What gun? It's been weeks now and they haven't shipped it (despite still being listed as in stock), all the voicemail boxes are full and you can't leave a message, and they haven't responded to any of my emails. They did of course promptly charge my card when I placed the order. I can't even get anyone on the phone to cancel the order.

What does that do better than an Adams Arms would? Sorry, im brand new to piston anything. I have two DI ARs and love them and have always looked at pistons as messing with something that is fine but then i just kinda thought that i should make my own opinion about them instead of listening to someone else.
I just got a Stag Arms 8 model, which has their own Piston system. Have only run 250 rounds thru it, but am extremely pleased.
Bonus is that their piston upper comes with Diamondhead iron sights ($230 package) and priced at $869.

Now the bolt carrier assembly is different for their piston models, but can't seem to find it. DI bolt carrier assembly is 115$.
Whole guns have lifetime warranty.
I agree. I recommend get a complete Bushmaster from MidwayUSA and then get an Ares piston kit.
This setup without removing the A-frame front sight. I got my setup about 850.
You could also for slightly above 1000 or less depending one which model you get buy an ADCOR BEAR upper.
Quad rail that is attached to the upper in a fashion that gives you a monolithic feel fit and function, has a forward charging handle that can be moved to either left or right or if needed taken off completely. It's gas piston with an easily accessible/removable gas block which allows you to quickly and easily maintain it. Gas tube runs into the gas block which is slotted to fit into the rail system to give you DI accuracy as it applies all its stress's on the upper receiver and not the barrel.
Op rod is attached and staked to the bolt carrier which by the way is hard chrome coated and since the op rod rides in a guide built into the upper receiver you cannot get carrier tilt. Bolt carrier has a polymer spring loaded dust wiper built into it that pops up into the ejection port when the rifle is in battery which keeps the insides clean and anything that does get int gets pushed out.
If your looking for a lot of innovation and willing to spend a little extra you can get yourself a BEAR.

That sounds exactly like Red Jacket. Funny.

Why are you asking for other ideas then?
the reason I suggest LWRC is for their quality of materials and manufacturing. They use a solid one piece carrier. CFH Nicorr barrels that are some of the most accurate and durable barrels that come standard. their piston design is arguably the best design.
it was just a suggestion to your original post
yet you dont want the help

Im sorry for sounding like i didnt want your help but i think you misunderstand me; when i said, " i just kinda thought that i should make my own opinion about them instead of listening to someone else." I was refering to whether or not the piston system in general is good or bad and not any one particular make or model. I did not know that LWRC is a very nice, high quality product and i wanted to know what it would do better than an Adams arms for like $300 less. Im very sorry for the confusion.
The Evil One, that Adcor BEAR upper looks amazing and is exactly what i like! I have two questions about it though. 1. How accurate is it? 2. Does anywhere online have them for a little cheaper? Do they ever hit gun shows in Las Vegas for cheaper? I guess that was three questions... my bad!

I can't really speak for accuracy on my behalf as the kind of accuracy I look for is combat accuracy and since I shoot LC m855 I never really bother to record how accurate it is. From what I've heard it can shoot .9 inches at the best with an average 1.1 inch groups. I remember seeing one available for around $900 a while back I can't remember where though so your gonna have to dig around. I can't speak for gun shows in Las Vegas as I don't live in Nevada and even when visiting haven't gone to any gun shows.
I did manage to dig up some more accuracy results for you:
Ammunition_____Bullet Weight______Velocity____ Accuracy
Stryker V-Max_____55 ____________2854_____0.375"
Lake City M855____62___________ 3012 _____ 0.75"
Hand Load TSX___62 ___________ 2766_____0.88"
Winchester USA FMJ_62_______ 2820_____ 2.00"
Buffalo Bore HP__77____________2701_____ 0.50"
Black Hills HP____69_____________2536_______0.82"
Wolf Gold HP____75 ________ 2443_____1.25"
Here is my rifle with an ADCOR BEAR Elite Upper mounted on an SR15 lower:

I can personally recommend the LWRC M6-SL upper receiver. Comes with a buffer and spring and rather nice, simple iron sights.
Mine has yet to hiccup with ammo ranging from 55 to 77 grain.

That is one nice piece you got there evil one! haha and the m6-sl seems kinda nice. Though for $1100 id just get the BEAR. Im gonna have to do quite a bit more research before i buy anything. Thanks though guys!
