The Ruger SR-556 Comparison Chart
Does a nice job of explaining the differences between the various models. Note that all the firearms in the SR-556 line use the same gas piston and regulator.
We don't hear much about the SR-556CLA but we probably should. Note the listed weight of only 7.17 pounds.

The CLA is their best model to date.

Except for the pinned flash hider.

The FS is a machined part of the barrel, not pined.

Either way, the inability to easily change muzzle device kills it for me.

Yes I agree, but it's the law.
Personally, I would have preferred a fluted 16" threaded barrel on the CLA. This would have set it apart (besides the rail) from the "C" variant and would have also given the owner the ability to change flash hiders without fuss and/or gunsmithing.

Yes, I'm still hoping to see the standard or another model with fluting and a threaded barrel. But I do like the shorter overall lengths of the CLA and C models.
Was very glad to finally meet you at Media Day, was hoping to run into you at SHOT so we could shoot the sht. I think I had eaten something that didn't agree with me at the range.

Hamburgers floating in a pan of grease will do that!

Chrome lined fluted barrel w/round handguards and removable flashider would be ticket.

Some kind of nitride barrel treatment would be a nice option too. I'd also like to see an SBR upper and, eventually, a complete factory SBR that's got a threaded muzzle for suppressor use. I think there's a whole untapped market there for Ruger.
Thanks for posting. That's a nice quick way to see they still don't offer what I want.

. Like others have said, fluted, round hand guard, with removable hider/brake.

Anyone else like to see a version of the SR-556E with a fluted barrel? Or would you guys prefer to see the CLA with a 16" threaded barrel?

IMO, the only thing lacking in the "E" model is chrome lining for the barrel.

I do believe there was some debate at Ruger over the chrome lining. In the end it was decided to delete the lining from the E model to keep the cost as low as possible.
Got my C model a few days ago, love it.
Just waiting for my BMC gunfighter, Elcan Os4x and my troy ind. trigger gaurd to come in
