Standard A2 lower with 16" middy upper
I have a standard A2 lower (standard rifle buffer, spring, receiver extension, etc.). Will this work with a 16" middy upper, or will I need a different buffer? All of the different buffer weights and barrel lengths/gas system lengths have me a bit confused. Has anyone done this?
Yes it will work. Yes you will be happy with the way the rifle operates, less violent than a carbine buffered action.
The carbine buffer tubes use a standard sized carbine length spring but can have various weighted buffers tuned to the gas port size/length of barrel. In general, the shorter the barrel, the heavier the buffer weight. Also factor in if the gas port is larger, than it will usually need the heavier buffer.
Rifle length buffer tubes use a standard sized rifle length spring and a rifle buffer. Not much need for a heavier/lighter buffer in rifle sized, mostly one size fits all.
Don't mix rifle and carbine buffer parts. The carbine buffer in a rifle length buffer tube or a rifle length buffer in a carbine sized tube...bad news.
