colt A3 upper reciever ?
does anyone know where I can get a Colt A3 upper receiver ? I want to take off my A2 and replace it with an A3 with a removable carry handle because I want to put a scope on it. Will the front original front sight interfere with the scope sight when I look through the scope ?
If it's a Colt you already have an A3 upper.

What you're looking for is an A4. Not an M4 upper, an A4 (no feedramps). An M16A3 is a full auto/semi vs. M16A2 burst/semi.
Are you looking for a particular flat top upper receiver? There are many (identical) ones to choose from. Just make sure it does not have the M4 feed ramps. Something like
this.

No. I have no good answer as to why, but in my experience, it should not.
Only time you might see the front post is on very low magnification 1.5-2X. After that it doesn't show up. Should probably be able to trade your Colt A-2 for a Colt flat top or just buy outright. Besides the C in the forge code doubt if there is any different in a standard ramped flat top receiver which should be able to be purchased pretty cheap. Most all I've seen Colt or not are black if that matters.

What is wrong with the M4 feed ramps ?
Can't mount a scope on an A2 upper?
A Colt A2 upper
A FN A2 upper

the problem is that your barrel does not have them. If you put a barrel w/o M4 ramps into a receiver with the M4 ramps, there will be these notches where the M4 ramps lead into the bottom of the barrel extension. This increases the possibility of the bullet actually hooking into one of these notches and creating the mother of all AR-15 jams.

Is it difficult to hold your head up to look through the scope when it is mounted on top of the carry handle ?
I thought it might be kind of awkward to do.
it's not a problem for me. The A1 and A2 carry handle was designed to acommodate a scope from the beginning. To be honest they make the detacable carry handle to get the scope above a fixed FSB on an A4 and M4.

Thank you for the help, I appreciate it. I have a Colt on law away with the permanent carry handle and was having second thoughts. I guess it will work out fine from your experience. I have noticed on the news that some of the troops in Afghanistan have sights mounted on top of the carry handle.
You might want to find the colt cheek piece to comfortably run the scope on the A-2.
where would I be able to find a colt cheek piece ?
I am new to this and have no idea where to look.

The are also non Colt cheek pieces. Just search for A2 cheek risers or similiar on google.
Colt stop making the A4 as a replacement part. I tried ordering some from Brownells and it was de-listed. You have to find one in the EE or strip a rifle down for parts.
Thank you for the replies
