I have an A1 and don't like the back sight aperture on it. I am interested in replacing it with the A2 aperture. Has anyone done this before? Are the A2 apertures that are offered through DPMS, Colt, etc the same width as the A1 or am I going to lose travel? Can anyone walk me through the switch (if its possible). I tried looking for previous postings but my searching skills might have failed me. Thanks

1) Yes you can replace the A-1 aperture with the A-2 aperture
2) Both the A-1 and the A-2 have a 0.070" aperture, though the A-2 does have an approximately 0.200" limited light short range aperture
3) Just like the A-1, the A-2 rear sight do not have same plane apertures
4) Yes, you will lose windage travel by going to an A-2 aperture

Another option is a $30 XS same plane rear sight....apertures are 0.100" and 0.230". I find the 0.100" aperture to be a good general-purpose size which works for pretty much all ranges, but the 0.230" seems too big. I use XS on my A1/C7 carbines and the regular A2 sight on my A2 rifle (using Santose IBZ)...
The XS is slightly thinner than an A2, don't know how it compares to an A1.
