 Stone Texture Mags!

Ok. . so I'm in my local hardware store. . . .I'm looking around––-they're redoing the interior, but are staying open while they do it. . . I go by the spray paint section and see something new. . ."Stone Texture" spray paint. . .Hmmm. . . .I think to myself, "Self, I wonder what that would look like on an AR mag!?". . . .

I return home.

I see if there are any reasonable priced pre-ban mags for sale on EE.

Lo and behold member "fuatos" had some nice Colt 20 rounders at a good price. . . I contact him, we do the deal. . .

I get Brownells to send me some new springs and followers. . .

Get the mags, steel wool them, wash out the insides, final clean with laquer thinner. . . . and then hit them with this new paint. . .

Waaa! Hey now! Looks kewl!:

So, I know what you all are thinking: "Hey, Einstein, what with textured finish, that's gonna get stuck in the magwell. . ."

And. . . you'd be right. . . I had to insert and remove them several times, taking off the new paint along the upper half of the back rib, and on the side, just above the latch hole. They don't drop free. . . But they do work! Did I mention how kewl they look? . . .

Good thing I only did this to three mags. . .

You win some, you loose some. Never know unless you try right?

Exactly!. . . Had to refinish them anyhow. . . . There'll never be any confusion at the range: "Hey whose mags are these?"

It'll be more like "Who's mags are THESE?!". . .lol . . .

Masking tape is for masking.

Good idea, poor follow through!

They have other colors besides uber-cool tactical snow-flauge?

unique for sure
you are right, no confusion @ range.

def. tape them off next time. you can always just spray paint the upper part, if you need to refinish...they will still drop this way.

& as long as your happy with them, who cares what others think

also, i take it you dont go to hardware store often? this type paint has been out for a loooonnnng time.

Its been at Walmart in a few colors for years. Thought about it myself but I could scratch the chunks off the cap of the can pretty easy so I didnt think it'd hold up.

Spatter finishes are easy with a toothbrush and a butter knife.

Dont drop them in the kitty litter.... they will blend right in.

I had thought of doing a mag like that back when I was doing our gas meter on the house in sandstone. I ran out of paint and didn't get to hit a mag with it.

Yeah, they had a sort of black w/spatter. . .but my experience in the summer is that black mags get real hot. . .so I"ve been refinishing mine in gray or gray/white lately––-basically whatever I have on the shelf in the basement. . .

Do I detect a note of sarcasm in your comment? Without the flash, it looks more gray than "snow". . . but we do get snow here. . . every other year, it appears. . .

I'm in hardware stores very often. . .but this local one (NOT Foam Depot or Highs) has never had this stuff before. . .

A little sarcasm, but slightly serious too. It does look pretty white, so just wondering.

Down here snow is a once-yearly event, but it could be a dusting or a foot.

I sprayed an old HIgh Standard 22 rifle stock with the gray Fleckstone finish several years ago. Still looks good. Most people I show it to think its a synthetic stock.
