Removing follower from GI 20 rder
Anyone know the trick to get the old follower out of the 20 rd GI mags? I wanted to purchase the new followers from Brownells but I can't seem to figure out the trick of removing them. No problem taking the 30 rd followers out.....
NEVERMIND! It fell out when I was returning to the gun room. Duh!!!!!
If you are talking about the short, straight 20 round mags, you shouldn't replace the followers.

I think he meant to ask why would you replace the followers??? The standard ones are considered to be perfectly adequate. None of the advertisers has come up with a replacement that is any better than the standard one so they can separate you from your hard earned money. The metal/alloy followers are considered to be the best.
All mine seem to be black plastic and are mostly COLT mags. They will tilt and sometimes will not hold the bolt back after last shot in full auto. So I figured Brownells followers would be an improvement.....Part # 080-000-480EJ...
The followers are supposed to tilt in the straight 20 rd mags. How do you think they function with the slanted bottom?
Will the Brownell followers be an improvement or what? I have replaced all but the Colt green followers with Magpul on all my GI 30 rders......BUT...they don't make followers for the straight 20 rounders.....
If you pull the charging handle back with an empty mag inserted, will the bcg lock back? If it will, the mag followers aren't likely you problem. All I can say is order them and see.

Sounds more like a problem with the spring. They are supposed to tilt.

Unless ther is actually wear or damage to the originals (which I've never seen happen)I don't see how new ones will make things better but since you already replaced them give them a try. You never know

The original alloy followers are better than the black for the 20s. It sounds like your springs are the problem.
Okie.dokie....I'll give the springs a look and skip buying new followers for the time being. And yes, these mags will hold back the bolt when empty.....

LMAO. That's usually the way it happens with those things. You fiddle with the damn thing for 2 minutes, set it down in frustration, and it falls right out.
I've got it down now, but I remember the first time I tried to remove it.
